sad Unfortunately I have declined the invitation for various reasons. I'll be saving all the work and advice given to me though and passing it on locally in one way or another. ^^;
I got invited to do a panel at a local convention. Any suggestions on what to present? Points I've Thought of:
*sqaredance petticoat vs bell petticoat, why the first doesn't work *Lengths of skirts *Different categories like Sweet, Punk, EGL, etc *Good Materials vs 'Bad' materials *Small History based on personal research *Fashion vs lifestyles *difference between Lolita style in America *display of good lace vs poor lace *Icons like Nobara and others related to literature and artwork *G&LB and other references including online communities *Open questions *Common misunderstandings between cosplay and fashion
heart Is there anything I should be bringing up that I am missing? I appreciate your feedback!
Added/ *Sewing For Self and Buying For Self [categories and references included] their Pros and cons *Reading the rules of a Lolita Community and following them = respect and harmony *pass out sheets on styles and topics including a pattern or two [with credit to all creators involved]
I read all commentary. If I do not reply, please know I am appreciative regardless. ~ heart

Quote: Icons like Nobara and others related to literature and artwork When you say icons, do you also mean pop idols? I'm no expert on dressing lolita, and I'm sure some, if not a large number, of the people attending your panel would be looking for help getting started on the fashion. Like, instead of trying to make all their clothing, where would be a good place for them to buy from considering their style snd such. Otherwise, good luck with your panel!

Oh yes, Nana Kitade is pretty popular I think, since she does some intro/ending songs to anime. People may or may not know about her, but it'd be good to mention her and what she does so people may look up to her.
And then also Mana, but then note thing about the whiteface.... e_e
One thing you might do, is pass out papers (if you got paper like that xD) Like, find a pattern on EGL or something for a bow, or a simple skirt? I can give you the ones I have, but you'd have to ask the people who made them first.
Also, maybe a little packet that explains the common styles briefly, and some places where they can buy lace or look for good fabrics. i.e.: Kiefers.com under Lace ---> Cluny, where 10 yards of lace is only about 5 dollars for most cotton lace on there, or 100-144 yards for just 36 dollars. Or cheeptrims.com, etc. So when they go home they can try it themselves. :3
And if you're going to link EGL to them, pleaaaase tell them to READ and follow the rules, to avoid any bad stuff from happening. D:

Crystal Orchid~ That's true; awareness on shops catering to specific types of lolita would be quite helpful to those who attend! I'll add sewing for self and buying for self onto the list! Thanks for your comment. smile
AmaniKitty~ Patterns and a pass out sheet! I've done a style sheet for an art group I'm in, but I totally forgot about it. 3nodding I wouldn't have thought about them for a panel. Awesome suggestion thanks so much! Cheeptrims is a lifesaver. I'm very thankful for the EGL community as well as the ones here [etc]. I will make it clear that the rules be read and followed. Respect is an issue in any community, and I appreciate you bringing that up.

You know how EGL gets when people don't bother to help themselves. xD

I already went to a lolita pannel this year at MomoCon and the one thing I found interesting that she missed and that a lot of questions were asked about was the boystyle. it's a very neglected style that a lot of American guy fans of the style want to find out more about.
also please provide many pictures and examples of items in the styles you are talking about.

Mmm. That's a very good point. I'll put more research into that category- because you are very right- its often overlooked. Originally I was worried about using too many pictures. Your suggestion encourages me to do otherwise. 3nodding

Mmmm, yes, look into that.
I know when I did my panel last year, though we mentioned it and had a visual example, the guys was like "why isn't there enough info about boystyle???" Because boystyle is not a major style in lolita, you retards So yeah. biggrin

-...quand le soleil sera couché dans ton âme froide.- that is mean to say....even if it was crossed out. I think that it is a up and coming style that is gaining popularity. It looks so cute if done right and major brand lables have also put out boy style stuff.

Just a note on petticoats, you may want to point out that some squaredancing petticoats actually DO work for lolita, and to point out why they work, rather than to completely strike them out. Explain why skirts need a certain type of support [gathered waist skirts need poof near the hips carried through out, princess line skirts need support closer to the hem, etc.] and which petticoat works best for that particular style of skirt.
Candy Violet sells two Malco Modes petticoats [their fluffy and lace petticoats] which is a squaredancing petticoat brand, just to let you know. Some of their lighter petticoats are just fine for lolita. Also, ITS's petticoats have a bit of an explanation in terms of why they're made the way they are [ie: Poof versus Princess] that you might want to bring up.
Light squaredancing petticoats [with two layers of material instead of 300 or howevermany] generally work better with classical lolita, since the skirts have more of an a-line than a cupcake shape; with a bit of minor modification, however, they can work just fine with any skirt. (:

You could just show how to alter square dancing petticoats to the right shape. It's pretty easy. :3
