i know there's a sticky about the pieces played for festival, but i wanna know how everyone did! please tell us about your pieces and the sight reading too!
before i begin, here's some info about me and my band. i play flute and my band has about 40 people in it total. [counting guard] we had less people actually playing at festival than what we have in our winds. we had about 23 players who could actually play. the rest couldn't because of grades though.
okay! now to the festival.
march: general lee by K.L. King it was pretty easy and we didn't practice it really at all, but we did awesome with it. it was kind of repetative though, but marches tend to be.
lyrical piece: blessed are they by johannes brahms wow this one was super hard trying to be on pitch and make it emotional and pretty, but mr.gibbs was proud of us for how well we did! [we have to change the piece to something else. it's gonna be by percy grainger.]
other piece: symphonic overture by charles carter oh my god! i love this piece it's so much fun. it was somewhat hard, but we definatly got it down and well. [someone else at festival played the same thing]
sight reading piece 1: we had a small short march. [i forgot the name] it was really easy and we totally owned it.
sight reading piece 2: this one was really slow [also forgot it's name] and it had 32nd notes! oO it was shocking to see those, but what sad is we got the 32nd notes down, but for some reason our brass kept on missing the key signature. we woodwinds kept on missing this rythmn that we knew too. we didn't know what happend there. but the piece was cool.
mr. gibbs told us that the guy was deciding between giving us a exelent and a superior for sight reading because of our mistakes, but we got a superior in the end, becasue we fixed those mistakes as we went!
we got straight superiors becasue of it, too! i can't wait till state.
HOW DID YOU GUYS DO???
