Heck no in our band we are all like closer than relitives, although there is ONE thing that we all hate including the band and the guard... THE CHEERLEADERS. Now we have funny ways of makeing fun of them its great... that is so of subject but guard does that to ya.

seterra zomg thats not fair...D:< my skool's band likes to say that we're in guard because we couldnt make it as cheerleaders. ugh lol Our band loves us. We have tons of fun together, half of band has dated half of colorguard and vice-versa. Heck, we even have lesbian tuesdays and gay thursdays.
But, every time i'm walking alone with a flag anyone not in band will say, 'Hey isn't colorguard just for ugly girls who couldn't make cheerleading?' Really annoying, only people with friends in colorguard or who are just generally nice like us.
Otherwise, if i'm not carrying my flag and I hear someone talking about guard i'll try to get into the convo, and i've heard bad things. 'Don't get into colorguard, it's the stupidest thing ever. Who wants to throw flags around? Anyone can do that.'
Yeah, dumb. But hey, when we blew the cheerleaders away at our first performance at a basketball game, we were laaaaughinnn. :]

At my school our football coach has shown up at Band competitons before. And the color guard gets regonized by most organizations in the school and is totally respected by the band. (Well except the percussion but that's a different story....) My school has like one of the biggest floor crews ever during winterguard, we only have 18 members on our guard but our floor crew was well over 60 at our last competition.

our colorguard is treated like an accessory----when they say "the band" it only includes the guard if we're getting in trouble. our winterguard is actually considered a...i don't remember what, but whatever they decided to classify us as means we don't get funding. it sucks. and we've had people tell us so much that marching band [as a whole] is not hard at all; that it's the easiest thing you can do. in english one day, me and my friend who is in the band were told it was so easy and we are just wimps for saying it's hard. we were yelling at them for a while. when we told him to go memorize the music, play it correctly no matter what the weather, wear the uniform even if it's a million degrees, perform, march in time, and DON'T FORGET PROPER MARCHING TECHNIQUE!! you know what he said? "i don't play an instrument." what did we say? "join the colorguard." he then went on about how he doesn't know how to spin and i said "neither did i until i joined.' and he was like "whatever, its not hard, i don't have to prove anything, so shut up." and had the teacher not decided it was a good time to start the lesson, we would have torn him limb from limb. so basically, our guard is treated like crap by everyone who was never in it.

lol until this year, most people at my school referred to us as "the flag people at the football games". This year we performed out first ever winterguard show at a rally and expected to get booed like EVERYONE else at the rallies, but intead we got a lot of positive comments and after we won first place in our first competition, news spread around the school about it REALLY fast. I was so surprised to be something enjoyed.

OMFG, our color guard is the most secessful branch at our school,
the step team hates us because we get funded and they don't and the cheerleaders just don't get to far, so yea, they are always giving us a hard time =/

Our guard was made fun of all the time. We had a small guard and I got the worst of it because everyone thought I was gay for being in the guard, especially when I was a guard captain my senior year. But hey what can you do? Half the band was cool to us and the other half was just like the rest of the school.

some of the boys that ride my bus and lived in my neighborhood hates on any one in the guard and says you most be a lesbian to be the guard.
if i was older then them and had to be good to stay in the guard i would have slapped them and hurt them with my 6 ft pole.

Well, since I play an instrument as well as being in the guard, I am widely accepted by all, but some of my fellow flagettes are shunned a bit. (Mostly because they're annoying. *cough*Allison*cough*) But as for the other part of the school, no. We annoy the cheerleaders by learning their cheers and repeating them back to them, so it's an ongoing battle.

I really dont know how guard is treated =/
So far, the band has shunned me for switching from marching to guard
[ guard needed more girls, other trombonists were assholes ]
The Band Director always bitches at us though. He keeps saying we need to be more of a part of the band just because we come into the band room and put up our flags before we get in line with the percussionists and listen to him babble on and on about some section's part during a couple of measures of music.
.....and this guy who is now ex-guard is in love with all the guard girls O.o
so I dont know
mixed feelings?

so during band camp the guard gets the shade because we're working out and running and tossing flags and stuff, but my friends in the band get all ticked when we start saying how something is because they seem to think the band works harder. I KNOW guard works WAY harder then the band. We're actually moving around and stuff... (Not that I have anything against the band smile )
