So I know I haven't been around, but we've been underway. There was something cool that came from it though. I guess you could call it a new collateral. When a ships underway, 5 minutes before Taps (lights out and silence for those who get to sleep), they call "Tattoo tattoo, lights out in 5 minutes" and if its going to happen they add "Stand by for evening prayer." Some ships don't do it at all. It had been done a few times here, but had stopped. Now everynight I get to do evening prayer. It started out with just being the first night of the underway, but so many people wanted me to do it, I got pulled into it each night after. I think its cool. I like it.

Wow, that's great AND really interesting. I am a strong believer in prayer. As long as those who have differing beliefs are not OBLIGATED to participate, I think more blessings is ALWAYS an awesome thing!

that's really awesome that they would honor you that way... spirituality is such a personal part of most peoples lives... i agree, as long as no one is obligated it makes it that much more awesome they asked you to do it everynight... all of my friends have different beliefs than i do but i think to each his own and have no problem saying my own prayers quietly to myself as they say theirs at our get togethers... PRAYER WORKS lol... congrats again...

No one has to participate. I say it over the 1MC which is the general announcing system onboard ships. So participation is really limited to whether you pay attention or not, since everyone hears it. It is religiously biased to Christians (I'm Catholic specifically but I can't offend any of the protestents). Now I do feel sorry for the those of Pagan beliefs or the long list of others. Those I've talked to said they don't mind. Now, a good friend of mine on another ship is actually a Wican lay leader there. SO the military does have more than just Chritsians represented, the only thing is the majority.
