The did a blood panel and tests and x-rays and didn't find any objects or anything blocking her digestive tract. So they gave her barium, which didn't leave her stomach at all. They did exploratory surgery and discovered she has pancreatitis, and the swelling is preventing anything from moving out of her digestive tract. Because she hasn't been getting any food through her system she's also developing hepatic lipidosis.
She's now on an IV to keep her hydrated and she has a tube into her small intestine to put nutrients into her system, and has had her stomach drained. She hasn't fully woken up from the anaesthesia which is worrisome, though she's breathing and her heart beat is strong.
I'm so worried about her - she's 15, so she's been with us for most of my life and the poor girl has been through so much, including being lost for two years and enduring some very brutally cold winters while she was gone.
So does anyone have any experience with these conditions? Particularly together? Any advice you can give? I know hepatic lipidosis is pretty serious and can be fatal, but can be reversed if caught in time and treated. I don't know a whole lot about pancreatitis, though I did a bit of reading today.
