This was my first year in guard, and I loved it very much. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for all our girls. We're losing most of our members before next season begins and we will be lucky to have five people interested in returning. Even without that to worry about, our coach just threw in the towel. We are now the smallest guard in the state with no coach. That kinda sucks.
Is there anyone who has gone through this before or has tips on recruiting for a larger guard? We have 4000 kids in our high school, and only five interested. Please tell me I can change that.

4000.. Wow.. My high school is lucky is we have 500..... Our band... was only 19 people this year with 10 auxilary (4 flag,5 dance, and 1 baton) Were not big enough to compete so it sucks x.x...And we just got a new band teacher who is a b***h compared to the old one that everyone loved.. But yea, all i can say to do is like... Talk to the incomming freshmen for next year, there might be some of them wanting to be in it.. mabey post something when theres tryouts (If you have them).. Not much else i can think of...

so the same thing happened to us but it turns out you can persuade people to join try going class to class and show them what its about or if you have tv announcements do a promo and as for the coach thing just roll with it when our coach quit it was for the better and we started winning stuff again but just remember if its what you love and you stick with it you will find a way to make things work

At our school to recruit we perform to all the P.E classes and we have over 3,000 in our school with no seniors (yet). And we have about 17 members.

might i suggest putting up sign around the school? also, ask your pricipal if you can do a presentation in the gym or something during a pepe rally ? maybe? especially of you can get guys to join. this guy on our guard (who cares if hes gay) he is super amazing. so make guard not look so girly so you can get people to join... then put in the positives out to the public. hope thes ideas help! heart

yea i know how u feel. most of our guard quit, so we had ONLY 3 people left, and 1 was a guy. we had to learn a grade 3 routine of Pirates of the Caribbean in 3 weeks and it was hard.

yikes. i kind of have the same problem, but its not as bad as yours...=/ this year, we only had 7 members...and we got judged down on that. scream anyways, try to adertise around your school. put up flyers and ask your friends if they want to join. last last year, we also had 7 people, but 5 of them were seniors. how we got another 5 people to join? i asked my friends. tell them the pros of colorguard like making new friends and having fun. (not to mention the fun tosses. <3)

yeah we still have a coach but we have areltivly small cg. at freahmen orintaiton we have a tabel set up and atleast one person there to talk 'bout cg. and around april we go to our feeder middle schools and perform. and we allways tell our nieghbor hood kids they should come to one, just one rehersal to see if they want to join. as i say to everyone who says cg is stupid, "don't dis it 'till u try it." anuncements work too.

Having been in nearly the exact same position as you, i have your advice.
I had been on colorguard for 2 years before i was captain and after my first year of being captain we lost a lot of seniors (keep in mind, we've never had a full-on coach...just some people helping us out every once in a while). It was looking like we were going to have 4 people in the guard....Can't do much with 4 people...HOWEVER- this year we managed to steal a lot of freshmen from the band and brought our number up to 11.
as far as being coachless, watch youtube videos, throw yourself at the mercy of nearby guard instructors to throw you a bone or some advice. it just means a lot of doing work for yourself.
Trust me though, if you do your best and look good a lot of people in your school will want to join. my school is even smaller.
