Srsly. So cute. heart heart heart omg

I want more kittens... does that count? ninja

It took me five years to talk the husband (who has cat allergies) into getting Violet, and we're currently in negotiations on a second cat, but seriously, nothing would make me happier than to have a house just full of cats.

The one I have my eye on right now for the position of second-kitty is a solid black girl. She's I think 8 months old and just tiny; I think she was maybe the runt of the litter, cause her brother was so much bigger than she was when he was adopted - my guess would be that she's 6lbs now and he was close to 10lbs when he got taken a couple of months ago.

Have you really tried convincing him that a cat is a good idea? Promised to take responsibility for it and everything? Told him that your very happiness depends on getting a kitten?

I want more kitties too.

That way I wont have to share Scamper or Bird with my parents at night because my cat does not cuddle under covers.

P.S. Anlina the link does not work. sweatdrop

More times than you can imagine. xd His main argument seems to be that he doesn't believe I'd take care of it and would force my mother to take care of it (beats me why he'd think that...) and that he wouldn't want to deal with the smell of it. Apparently he has the nose of a canine, 'cause he seems to smell "bad smells" constantly, to which I ask what the heck he's smelling, 'cause I don't smell a thing. Either that or he's just going crazy. I vote for that one. rofl

I even said that I'd have the kitten live in my room, small it may be, but I'd be willing to sacrifice some of that space so the kitten would be comfortable. xd

Seems like it. So I went website diving and fixed the link:

Bah, I suck with links apparently. crying

I've got a covered litter box, with pine pellet litter, and a HEPA air filter in the apartment. Seriously, you cannot smell a thing. Even when the litterbox is freshly used, the only smell that comes out of it is wet pine, which is not unpleasant.

And cats clean themselves so well - nothing smells better than a freshly groomed cat. ::sticks her face in kitty fur::

So yeah, I vote crazy. :'D

I have 2 cats currently, Boo Boo Snuggle Muffin and Amarise. I had three but my oldest cat recently died. She was 18 and very senile. There are a lot of cats that roam the neigborhood though. I feed them and they all have names. I also take them to the shelter to be spayed or neutered when they begin to trust me. Dispite all the cats and rent-a-cats I have, I still would love to have another cat...not necessarily a kitten though.

My doggie only smells after a few weeks, and you actually have to stick your face in his fur, and even then the smell isn't horrible, yet my father complains just about every day that my doggie smells horrible, even right after he gets a bath! I think he just has something against pets. confused

bp: That's fabulous that you take the strays in to get fixed. I've been reading up on trap-neuter-release programs for managing feral cat colonies, and it sounds like it's really a good way to reduce the number of feral and stray cats around, and to keep them healthier.

It must cost you a fortune though. I hope you're lucky enough to have cheap spay/neuter clinics or some sort of program in your area. We have nothing like that here, so you're looking at $200 or more for a spay.

Unknown:
It sounds like you could be right about him just having something against pets. sad As long as you clean up after your pets and dogs get washed regularly and cats are good about washing themselves, they really don't smell like much of anything at all. No worse than people.

sqooky does the catch and release fixing.
We don't have many strays anymore to catch to try and fix...
Even if we did I doubt we would have the money to do it. sweatdrop

Yes the catch and release works wonderfully. When I was in highschool I vollunteered for a local no kill shelter. They managed many of the ferral colonies in the area, including the one at the school itself. In Florida there is a large problem with overcrowding so the schools have a lot of portable classrooms, making a perfect home for cats and other creatures.

This is how it works:

1) Ferral cats are trapped in humane traps, tuna works best. They step on trigger and the cage closes behind them. Kittens are not as easy to catch, noramly if you catch the mother they will come to her. On occasion you have to rig a string to the trap and hide though because they are not heavy enough to set the trap off.

2)The ferral cat is taken to be spayed/neutered.

3)While they are at the vet they clip their ear. It does not cause them pain because their ear is clipped while they are under anesthesia. This aids us in being able to identify which cats have been "fixed" and which have not.

4)The cat is released into the habitat from which it came. The numbers stay stable and they no longer reproduce, however other strays often join the colony so it is an on going process.

ALSO, you might check at your local humane society. I know the one in my area does spaying and neutering at low cost. It is about $15-$30 per animal. I think its a small price to pay in order to control the population.

Oh my god, I wish we had some place that would do spays/neuters that cheap.

I've looked around and there's literally nothing in my area... apparently Ontario just sucks for those kinds of resources.

Our local Humane Society receives absolutely no funding from the government or SPCA (they're actually closing down a bunch of OSPCA branches in smaller towns around us, so we'll end up with any animals they had when that happens sad ) and they run entirely on donations and adoption fees, which are unfortunately but I suppose necessarily high. $210 to adopt a fixed cat, $100 + $75 spay/neuter deposit for an unfixed cat.

It makes it really hard to adopt out the older cats, not giving any financial motivation to choose an adult over a kitten. Thankfully, it's a low-kill shelter - animals only get euthanized if there's no hope of rehabilitation - so the cats who are less adoptable end up in the community cat rooms for however long it takes for them to be adopted.

There's this big, fat, cranky black cat named Fran who has been there for five years. She's a nice girl when you get to know her, but she's massive and temperamental and she doesn't groom well so she gets mats on her side which she doesn't like anyone touching. I'd like to take her once I have a house with some space I can dedicate to cats.

The area I lived in before my recent move had the same program where they clip the ear of the neutered cat before releasing it. That's how my roomie got Basil. He has a clipped ear and is none the worse for wear. biggrin

We also had the same kid of clinic that was basically populated by vets who volunteered in their spare time to run a low cost spay/neuter clinic. They were only open certain days and only provided the neutering, vaccinations, and flea solutions, etc. The costs were remarkably low for all services. Neutering a male cat started at $15 and a female spay at $25. They ended up knowing me rather well because I brought in several kitties that weren't mine. xp

Oh! And I felt like mentioning! I live in Arizona now, and have for quite a bit of a year. I had flea stuff applied to my kitties before I left, but haven't had to since. No fleas out here. eek It's kind of odd.

PS I hope you get your kitty Unknown!

@ara: You don't get fleas because of the heat. And I'm not certain where exactly you live in Az, but I know phoenix has an ASPCA. Normally they have low cost vets as well.
