So... Everyone on the Island has sinned in the past, right? And those who have died have repented for their sins. The only one who we don't know fully about is our darling Libby, and her story will be revealed in the next season. It all fits!
Charlie: Drug Addict but became a better man after he was baptized and all that nice stuff
Boone: Came to terms with loving Shannon
Shannon: Stopped being such a little slut/con(wo)man
Mr. Eko: Repented for smuggling drugs and inadvertently killing his bro
Ana-Lucia: Repented for all her past sins
Of course, there are others, but I don't feel like tallying them up. And we've got Locke, who was shot and almost died but... He didn't repent! Hot damn!

Eko didn't repent.

He wasn't sorry for anything he did, because he was only doing what he had to do to survive. He went so far as to say he was proud of killing someone to save his brother.

There are a few people that haven't done anything horrible (that we know of)... Rose and Bernard, Locke, they didn't harm anyone. They have no reason to repent, so why are they there?

We know close to nothing about Rose and Bernard and Locke was growing and distributing marijuana. If selling marijuana isn't a sin, I don't know what is. Eko did repent. That's why he was building the church and he was carrying around his "Jesus stick" with all the Bible verses on it.

What about Vincent? xD Just kidding, but seriously, Walt didn't do anything bad. Even though he apparently has powers.

My REAL Lightsaber
We know close to nothing about Rose and Bernard
Alright, that's true... but when people typically have big secrets in their past, they are revealed in a flash back. I sort of assumed because they didn't have a suspicious flashback, and because they're pretty straight forward people, you know, honest, up-front, not manipulative liars, etc, that they're pretty decent people. That also stands to reason, the others are capturing the "good people" that were on the plane... so not everyone who was on the plane was an evil sinner.

Ehrm... Locke was just living there, we don't know for sure that he was growing it or selling it, he was just a part of the community. And I personally don't think that growing marijuana is a "sin." It's illegal, sure, but not like they were making meth or crack or something that kills people.

Here's a bit I'm taking from Lostpedia.

Lostpedia
Eko shows his cross to Yemi, who reaches out and cradles it in his fingers. Eko says, "I ask for no forgiveness, Father, for I have not sinned. I have only done what I needed to do to survive." Yemi lets go of the cross. Referring to Daniel asking if Eko was a bad man, Eko says that when he was a small boy he killed a man to save his brother's life--and that he is not sorry for this, he is proud of it. Then Eko kneels before Yemi and extends his arms, palms upward in supplication. He appeals, and says to the Yemi-like figure: "I did not ask for the life I was given, but it was given nonetheless. And with it, I did my best."

He was sorry that his brother died, but he didn't kill his brother, so he did not repent for that. He was sorry that the church got closed down, but he was only defending himself, so he wasn't really sorry. He owed Yemi a church, and so he tried to build one.

I think there's a bit of a difference between someone being sorry that something happened and actually repenting for doing something wrong. That's more of a philosophical debate, though.

Another thing though, how is Boone a sinner because he loved Shannon? And we didn't find out if/that Libby had done anything wrong.

I feel the need to continue sweatdrop

I mean, Hurley never intentionally hurt anyone, and neither did Claire. Michael had been a good person before he got to the island. As someone brought up, what could Walt, or the other kids have done to be "evil?" After all, they're just kids. What did Jack do? Is being a work-a-holic and a not-great-husband a sin?

Spiral, I shall try my best to answer some of those questions.

Some of the people are there because they WANT to be there, such as Locke because, if you recall, he wanted to go on an expidition(?) in Australia but couldn't because he was in a wheelchair so the people didn't let him. Then the plane crashed on this island where Locke could live out his dream.

Boone needed to repent because he had an affair with his sister which is not just immoral but disturbing as well.

Jack was to caught up in his work to notice anyone else until it was to late. I.e. when his wife left him because he constantly worked to much.

Some people are just unfortunate enough to end up on the island because there aren't only "bad" people on planes otherwise the whole show would be screwed up, they needed some people to fill in the gap. I.e. Rose and Bernard, Walt, Vincent, etc...

Hurley did not sin but he needed to come to terms with himself. He always thought he was crazy so he liked to be in the mental institution so he needed to resolve that.

Well, I think I've covered it all...sorry that it's a bit long-winded.
