[This will be posted both on the introduction subforum as well as the main forum. This is a work in progress. Whatever isn't covered in this post feel free to pm one of the mods. Also alert me if there are any major spelling errors. -Amanda/Antonia-]

This is long, so I will have to edit it: but here's the general idea so far:

Welcome to 21+ Gaians Headed for the Home

Who are we?

We are a collection of “older” Gaians ranging from 21 to… well to be honest there is no limit! In the masses of pre-teens and teenage Gaians this is a safe haven where you can chat with friendly people. From fun talk about avatars to intelligent conversation, we’ve got you covered.

What can Our Guild Offer you?

There are other 21+ guilds, and 30+ guilds in Gaia. However, we are a close network of people who keep the spirit of a nicer internet alive. No flaming, no spam, just people getting fictional gold and making friends.

Who’s in Charge?

Dakotarayne is our founder and the Vice Captain. However, he has a young child and has been a little busy as of late.

Doressa is our Guild Captain and one of the most active members of the guild. She can create subforums, change the banner, and other such fun duties.

Who are the Moderators + what do they do?

Our Moderators are as follows: Doressa, NessaChan, Dafthank, Main Man Methuselah (Guild Mule), Kekadu, Dakotarayne, Sydney Skye, Headhunter, and AntoniaMerEnfant

Who is available varies according to our busy lives. Currently Doressa, Kekadu, Headhunter, and AntoniaMerEnfant are the most available.

Moderators can invite/accept/and ban members. Delete/edit posts, create sticky/announcement posts.

Moderators also work together to design contests, games, and other fun for the guild. Generally most decisions are made by a team of moderators.

How can I become a mod?

Guild mods are mostly selected of long standing regularly-posting members. There isn’t a criteria per se to become a mod, we really just select people we think would be good for the job. To be a mod you have to be able to make objective decisions. Mods are not given incentives, it is a labor of love.

Who is this Methuselah Guy?

Main Man Methuselah is the guild mule. He is controlled by the moderators and is used to distribute contest prizes, and receive donations to the guild. He also makes announcements for the guild. Please add Methuselah to your friend list so you can receive guild announcements via pm!

Fitting in:

Lonely? Feel free to pm one of the moderators. Make an introductory post that lets us know about yourself. Our guild is made up of a diverse group. We have members in Australia, Canada, the United States, and more! Got kids? Several guild members are parents, some with children on Gaia. Don’t have kids? Several of us don’t as well, you’re not alone. Whether you’re in school, working full time, or both, there are guild members who can relate. Video game lovers, sci fi fans, motor fanatics, writers, and artists all make up our group. Long story short—make posts, share your interests with us.

Got into an Argument? Fights are very rare in this guild. However, most have been resolved with mutual respect and understanding. Controversial issues have been discussed, we ask you to use respect. If you are going through a rough time and need to cool off we understand. Having a dissenting opinion will not get you banned, as long as you respect others. Remember, you can edit your post if you write something you later regret.

Help, everyone knows each other already! We are close knit, but we are always excited to gain new members. Look around the threads, don’t see something that interests you? Post a new thread! Feel free to pm/add me or others if you like.

Phantom Gifters:

Our Guild is haunted by the spirit of generosity. Members have sent gifts via Gaia anonymously in the past. Here are some quick tips to helping your chances of being haunted. Post regularly, being a visible and active member in the guild helps. We’re not sure who the gift givers are, but the more you talk to people the more likely you are to make a friend unknowingly with a phantom. Make a wish list, the phantom gift givers appear to go by wish lists. Try to place a wide range on your wish list, having a few small items greatly increases your chances. Also, gift givers may give out items they have multiples of, or have won in games. The more items you have on your wish list the greater the likelihood a phantom gift giver might have that item to give you. Not haunted? Don’t feel unloved, the phantom gift givers come in waves. Also, if you receive a less expensive item than another member it is not because you are less liked. We do not know the identities of the phantoms, but we know for certain there are more than one. Some of the phantoms may have more Gaia gold than others. This may be why they are anonymous gift givers. The beauty of the phantoms is that no one gift giver appears “better” than the others by distributing bigger or better gifts. If you are given a present by the phantom the best way to thank them is to make a post. Unmasking the Phantom may not be the best idea—at least Christine Daae had some problems after she did. Once you pass the point of no return, there’s no turning back.

Thanks for reading this guide and we hope to see you around frequently!

Getting Responses to Your Posts:

Sometimes you may not receive a response to your post right away. There are a few common reasons for this. The first reason is that the guild goes through lulls or slow periods. Many guild members are college students-- and finals season always drops our response rate. Other times people may have difficultly relating to a topic or knowing what to reply. One tip is to frame subjects you want to talk about in a broad manner in which others can relate. Instead of making a post about your new cool skillet-- maybe make a thread about cooking tools with a smaller segment inside about said skillet. Also, where you post things does matter. Unfortunately the subforums get far less traffic than our main forum-- we entreat you to change this!
