so i am a sophomore tuba player and my school has sousaphones. and when i watch other bands i notice the tubas more than most. so basically i was wondering if there are any other schools that have the tubas do horn snaps and all the crazy visuals the rest of the band does. it seems normal for me but i havent seen any other bands do the same so yeahh

Well, not really. Our tubas carry their sousaphones in a strange way during pregame, but other than that, no.

Our school has to use concert tubas for marching band. We don't have money for sousaphones and those.

we do biggrin
we swing our sousaphones during marching out to the field and parades just like the rest of the band. =) It made my arm twitch when I was learing how to do that. It caused me soooo much pain.
and we do more visuals during shows than anyone else in the band, except maybe the drumline. just because we're cool like that.
plus, we have calls. like, eamon calls 1234 and we spin. or dan calls 5678 and we hop. while leaning backward, so it's more like air humping. xD.
then we have a tuba feature every year. this year's dance was kind of lame, because we didn;t have time to learn the full dance (eamon tried to teach it to us the day of the game), but last year's was The Stripper, which involved a kick line, and actual stripping on the field. biggrin
gotta love playing the tuba!

I've noticed that, too. Actually, we had six sousies this year and we shared horn flashes with most of the band in the show. We turn them upside down sometimes and spin, but nothing extra ordinary. Yet.
Our new assistant band director was a tuba in the NM Pride for maybe seven years. We get to flip them when marching season rolls around again!
Also, since the two most out going guys, (one of them being our section leader,) are athletic and crazy, we play Follow the Tuba some times. They do. I almost got killed the first time and quit. But, oh God, it was so much fun. Playing the sousaphone rules.
(Note: People are crazy strong when they march concert tubas. These people from another high school could actually hold them in one arm while spreading them. I freaked.)
(And by them I mean their arms. Once again, freaked.)

We have five sousaphones (including me) The only cool moves we did was a matrix and lifting our horns up to do part of the show.

We only have two sousaphone players.
And they strut when marching off the field (meaning they tilt on the "hut" during the drum beat).
