I haven't heard any rumors or anything so you can release that tension in your shoulders.

I just finished Incubus Dreams last night *no spoilers* and some of Anita's ramblings made me wonder if the series will be ending soon. I just picked up the feeling that her (Anita and maybe Laurell) heart wasn't into it anymore. Almost like she was exhausted and ready to throw in the towel. Those who have finished may have a better idea of what I'm trying to say. Anyone else get the feeling that the series may end soon?

Also.. If the next book was to be the last book, how would you like to see it all end?

You know, I had the same exact feeling because of everything Anita kept saying throughout the whole book. I just don't understand. Everything I have ever read LKH say, has always said that she absolutely knows there is a limit to the number of Merry books. She even knows exactly how they are going to end. But she has always said that Anita would keep going and going. She said she has book ideas that would keep Anita busy forever. I just don't understand.

It makes me very scared, sad and depressed.

I feel that LKH is trying to do too much in too little time. I didn't expect another book to come out so..well fast. I mean, its not a bad thing but I would have waited longer for a shorter, more "anita-ish" book. Personally, ID wasn't really that great. I guess anita could go on forever and I have no problem with that, as long as Anita doesn't become Merry. I like Merry but...I like Anita just the way she is or was or is or ahhhh...to confusing. I don't know if that makes sense. sweatdrop

She talked a little about this at the booksigning.
There is definitely going to be at least one more book. biggrin

What's happening is that Anita's job is catching up to her. You know, like when military personnel come back from a war and they have all sorts of horific visions. They become different. That's why Anita's starting to sound like that. I mean, think about what she's seen. There was the whole Phillip and Nikolaus thing, but then don't forget all the incidents in Blue Moon. She's got a lot of inner demons to deal with. It only makes sense that she'd start acting different, because she's not a sociopath.

Wow.

I didn't get the feeling of an impending doom *ahem* impending end to the series at all. From what, exactly, did you guys get that feeling; I mean, do you have an example of something Anita said?

I'm in no way disagreeing, but I just didn't see what you guys have seen and would like to understand!

I sure hope Laurell isn't thinking of ending the series anytime soon! Silly though it may be, I would probably cry, lol. This is my favorite book series and I still am of the opinion that it has much more potential and can go much further.

So much to respond to. I should've got back earlier.

I can understand Anita's job catching up with her. I'm surprised it didn't happen a lot sooner. Especially with all the metaphysical changes and her blurring through so many lines. That's not what gives me the sense of doom though. In the very last chapters in particular there's a phone call and Anita goes on about how she doesn't want to go out to work if it was the police. She admits she would go but still wouldn't like it. The feeling there would be a finale soon really hit me then. It almost felt like a forshadowing. I'd get a direct quote but my book is on another floor and I'm tired ;p

I also don't want to see Anita turn into another version of Merry. I personally think I favor the Anita character more.

And yes, the thought of the series ending makes me a bit sad too. It's good reading.

Hm, I see what you mean about that particular scene. It does come across with the message that Anita is tiring of her work. I suppose the thought did go through my mind at least once. . .but I only connected it with the ending of ID, not the series as a whole. Just like at the end of Blue Moon, when Anita was saying that she needed a break (even though the break was more from her personal life than from work), we got OB and then Anita was "back to normal". Maybe Anita just needs another book that is written away from all of the usual crap she has to deal with? And then she would be fine?

Just some speculation, I suppose. I would be willing to accept any explanation over that of the series coming to an end. I was reading up on it a bit yesterday, and in the latest interviews with LKH, she is still saying that the AB series is open ended and will keep being written "as long as we're all having fun". I know I still am!

So, hopefully this "nearing-finale vibe" doesn't stick.

That sounds good. Even though OB was away from most of the main characters I enjoyed it. I wouldn't mind reading something else like that in the next book. And hey, who could say no to more adventures with Edward? But yes, that sounds way more soothing than a series finale.

Personally I would almost want ot see the series end... now before you all shoot me let me explain. As some of you said, in ID Anita's job is starting to catch up to her.... You can only take so much of the constant killing and pain. There is now so much thrown on her shoulders through her relationships and the powers shes gaining. She can't keep gaining powers forever. Personally I dont want ot see her gain any more powers. I dont want her to turn into an all powerful character. I love the series to death, but there has got to be a limit to what Anita can do and what she can deal with. Right now shes in the middle of about a million relationships and shes loseing her morals... Shes almost loseing what made her Anita. If LKH was to end the series, and all good series need endings, I want it to be before Anita becomes someone else altogether. What else can she got through before she's nolonger the Anita we all know and love? not much....

I e-mailed the address the Laurell's site gives and since Laurell's a techophobic, her friend answered it. lol.

In the e-mail I sent, I asked whether there was going to be another Anita book added to the series and whether Edward would be in it and this is what it said back:

Hi! Sorry, not Laurell. She is technophobic. But I will pass your letter on to her.

Yes, Edward will be in Anita #13.

The next Merry book is Stroke Of Midnight and out in April 2005. No news on the next Anita yet.

You can keep up with all that is happening at www.laurellkhamilton.org

Smiles....Darla

So it sounds like LKH is working on the next book, but they don't know when she'll finish or anything more on the book.

I think they'd be more exciting if they had more action. ID wasn't bad, I don't particularly mind all the smutty scenes, but I cracked more smiles during the scenes that involved the investigation. Good old Anita gets to be herself infront of the cops.. usually. Basically, I'm all about the a** kicking.

It's also good to hear Edward will be in the next book. Very good =D

And senshichic, I understand what you mean. When the end comes I want to still feel good about the series. I'd rather it go and miss it than be thankful it was being put to death. I imagine there will be a little tango with Belle Morte and maybe the Mother so I wonder at times if Anita will end up becoming one of the undead. Doubt that, but it does seem like she;s going to come as close to god-like as her men can make her.

i still think there is lots more to the ab world like belle and the sweet mother and if anita does quit the police force she will still be anita and she will not be able to keep her nose out of trouble and lkh has not ended the growth or even showed the scope of anitas powers and they are just begining to show richards new powers so i think there will be many more books to come besides anita is LKH brain child i think it be around for a while yet

NEVER! Well, I hope it will never end. There are books like the AB series, but I feel that the AB series has taken a unique spin on the supernatural. It's not all gorey and sexual (it is, but not super duper so), and the characters have more depth than I've seen in many other stories...

I still have yet to read ID... scream

Read it! Now! I'm anxious to hear what you think about it ;p

I agree thats part of the reason I'd hate to see it end. In comparison with other books about the supernatural that I've read the AB series is the more original of them all. That was the first set of books I read where supernatural creatures were acknowledged by the general public as living, breathing (sometimes!) things. Plus the characters is just lovable and Anita kicked a** for just a human girl.
