Recently I went to Philadelphia to see King tut and all of the stuff from his tomb. I was shocked to find out that they don't actually have King Tut's mummy. I went on Tuesday the 28th and I'm not sure if he was actually there before. If anyone know where he is or why he isn't there now, could you please tell me.

They were going to bring his mummy on the tour, I believe, but they decided against it because they were afraid the mummy would be too delicate and might become damaged being shipped around the globe. He hasn't been in the exhibit, period.

I think they're trying to avoid what happened last time Tut went on tour (back in the 60s-70s) when some careless loaders dropped and chipped a statuette of Sekhmet. (Hey, I rhymed razz )

The mummy of King Tutankhamun is the only mummy which still lays in its tomb (I was sad that we didn't go into the tomb though it was 11am when we were at the Valley of the Kings and I was DYING!) and yes, it is very delicate so I can understand that they didn't want to risk moving him.

yeah, mummies are very delicate, i herd one story ( i cant remember which king) but when they took him out into the sun after taking him from his tomb, the mummy itself rose out of the coffin. science says it was the heat and the preserved tendons and joints that made him moved, i could imagine that would be pretty scarey and funny at the same time

sorry for my randomness.. this just made me think of that

has anyone else herd this story?

Oh yeah! That was Ramses II. 3nodding That's a pretty hilarious tale...but if I was there when it happened I probably would have panicked, ran, tripped on a rock or something, and fallen flat on my face. rofl

And apparently he's stuck that way now, so you know which mummy is his by the raised hands.
