Hiya

There are many topics in Egyptology that some people here know more in then others. For example this could be Hieroglyphics, Mythology and religion, art, culture etc.

So what area do you know more in? For me it has to be Hieroglyphics, and some in everyday life and Pharaohs.

Hard to say, but probably religion and mythology- and that bleeds over into everyday life, of course, since Egyptian religion touched on so many aspects of everyday life. I've also studied the language for a few years, but sometimes it seems like the more I study the less I feel like I know. Heh- maybe I should have stopped back when I knew everything. wink

My worst subject is Pharoahs- I've never been much for names and dates, and I tend to concentrate more on the essence of everyday life and cultural worldview than specific events on a timeline. I'm gradually picking it up as I go- and that helps, because you can see how such events influenced the development of the culture. But for the most part, I'm still fairly hopeless in that department. sweatdrop

Aha! I'm stronger than Weben in a subject! AT LAST VICTORY IS AT HAND! *dances madly*

My strong point is the Pharaohs and the dynasties. It's what I started out with and it's easy for me to remember what happened during the dynasties and the rulers (heck, most of the time they just borrow the name of their predecessor. For example, those umpteen-dozen Ramses-es...es...es...) Any other civilization except maybe the Hittites and the Romans, on the other hand... gonk

I'd have to say my weakest point is hieroglyphics and language. I can only recognize a few symbols so far, my handwriting is terrible, and I trip over the pronunciations. But I'm working on it! 3nodding scream

(All in good fun, Weben, of course. ^_^)

Weben - The only figures I know with Pharaoh's is the dynasty they lived in. I know the 18th Dynasty very well, it has Tuthmosis I, Tuthmosis II, Hatshesput and Tuthmosis III (I don't know the rest, I only know those 4 names from when I watched a program about discovering Hatshesput xd ; wink

Nevira - Lol because so many Pharaoh's had similar names I used to be confused with who was who. Did Tuthmosis I hate Hatshesput? No that was Tuthmosis III, and did Rameses III build Abu Simbel? No that was Rameses II.

when i study the egypt things, i study all of them, not just one thing.

my favorite would have to be in this order thought:

mythology//temples
hieroglyphics
rulers//dynasty
everyday life

Heh, I'm with Rennie on the multiple names making life more confusing rather than easier! blaugh I wish I could remember the kings list by dynasty like you guys can- it would make it so much easier for me to digest the time references I'm given. As it is, when a book says that such-and-such happened during the 13th dynasty or whenever, it's a very nebulous concept for me.

All I know is that I think Set regained a little popularity in the 19th dynasty- is that right? That was the one with Ramses and Seti, wasn't it?

And I know who Amunhotep IV was, lol.

Well, I have about the same knowledge of several different things. Art is definitely one of my stronger points, but I am also able to name Phaoraohs and possibly when they reigned, everyday life, mythology and religion. My weakest has to be in reading the ancient texts which is something I shouldn't be lacking in... sweatdrop I will eventually become stronger in that one as well!

My best point would have to be the pharohs. I just lap any tidbit on them up, and love doing it....they were fascinating.

My weakest point is definitley....heiroglyphics. Which is bad, considering I've got a book that shows a good ew of the symbols.

I believe that my strongest subject is mythology and religion.

Blaaah, this is difficult for me. My real passion is with Mythology, but some of the coolest stuff also came through certain Pharaohs. I'm not THAT well-read in the dynasties, but I do recall a few. Hatshepsut, Rameses II (that was The Great, right?), Akhenaton and his son (you know who)...

...I'm still gonna say mythology, though... I know the deities a little better. xd

I know quite a lot about certain Pharaohs and dynasties (particularly the family from the Amarna period); I do however wish to learn more about the mythology and deities. My knowledge of them is embarrassingly small! redface

Mythology and religion interests me most, and then its art...I don't know much historical information, like dates or pharoahs..I'm more into the arty side xp
