ah this year, our show was written for us by one of our assistant bd's (he also writes music/drill for other people but he didn't write our drill). ours was unique because it was about our own city basically. it was like "a day in the life..." like, the first&second part was going to work, the third part was daydreaming and the fourth part was at the club (so it must've been a friday..HMM!) and whatnot. heck, in the beginning we had one of our news forecasters (one of the guys in the drumline has a forecaster for a dad) announced the morning news for us, it was sooo cool! in the beginning it was 'ticking' (at the tempo to what we would march to in the beginning) and then you'd hear "RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING" and then it'd be 1, 2, 1,2,3,4 and then we would start the show. and then we had several voice overs during our marching, it was really neat. and then we had desks and whatnot and like..ahh..so fun..

This years show had a dancing drumline (that we added in 3 days before contest) and an amazing horn movement at the end. It brought the house down. cool

Our Drill tends to be very unique and complicated. We're one of the few non-competition bands that doesn't march in boring old block formation. Our arranger, who also is an instructor at band camp, and our band director tend to put some nice horn moves in, among other things. and in this years drill, the sax's, decided to put some moves in. We had never seen the drill previous to our first run through, and we didn't even talk to each other, we just decided each to his or her own. that we should do horn pops on these eighth notes, it was eventually added to the entire shape (we had three shapes on the field in that set.) and later on in the same song. we added a lunge, this we decided on with a little chat, we felt like it was empty there, so we fixed it. That lunge was later added into the drill for the rest of that side of the band. the other side took four beats to cross their left leg over the right. like an 'x'. but the director added that. *finds drill charts and looks at them* yes i keep my drill charts. nope couldn't find anything, but they still smell like band camp. XD yep band camp has a smell. freshly run of copies of drill, sweat, the pavement we practice on. football camp is sadly the same week, so we can't practice on the field. not to mention this year we were putting turf in that week.
And this isn't really part of the drill, but we have stripes down the leg of our pants, so that accentuates when we are in step or not, it looks really nice when we are. Unfortunately it also accentuates when we aren't so we're more likely to get counted down.
Our drum line has also added a few things in here and there in the drill over the years.

edit: i was looking at last years drill and that reminded me that another thing that sets our band apart is our nontraditional entrances. we always come on from different sides of the field. this year it was all 4 sides. It was awesome to watch.

edit again: OoSweet_EnvyoO you did Earth Wind and Fire last year? so did My band. But I bet yours didn't open with a personally arranged version of Drum Song...... HA! I love George.

another thing that makes our show unique is our personally arranged music by our beloved George Schrader (I believe he actually has a teaching job out west somewhere now. but i'm not sure.) And our band director marched DCI he also worked with a DCI group which is why our shows tend to be so DCI inspired.

Any show that we would do had a subtle custom touch to each section of the band, made by the members of that section. All was agreed upon before the final showing so there were no conflicts. It always worked out wonderfully. Too bad I was never in one of the shows. ^_^

The people in it.
