orgasmic_whatsit my therory is that Richard is one of the original inhabitants and the healing properties of the Island act like a fountain of youth for him. i agree

I believe richard stays alive for a certain purpose: something like guide every leader of the others in their journey, like an advicer, never being the leader but being there with them, from ben, locke to even widmore. Altough getting into the "weird theory" stuff, i really love Richard being the smoke, if ultimately he is the smoke i would definitely be satisfied, maybe it is too simply if we are discussing it in these forum but maybe a simple answer to who is the smoke monster? would be just fine.
