i dont know if i want to play base drum....esspecially marching!!
any advice?

Do it.
It's hard as heck to find bass drummers.
Trust me.
We're a bass line of two right now.
It's our bass duo, and our drill is written for five aswell as our music.

Wow, that's the opposite of our band. We have a huge percussion section and it's always a fight every year to be on drumline, even bass line.
I guess so advice would be to work at it and get used to the weight distribution. It can't be that bad if it's my boyfriend's favorite marching instrument. He is bass 4 this year. <3

I played bass [fifth bass, mind you.] in my percussion class yesterday and it is by far my favorite to play out of the marching percussion. The bass line is an essential part of the drumline as well as the band overall. They are the main keepers of the beat. It is really amazing if you have tonal basses; you can do runs up and down for effect. There are visuals you can do with your mallets too that look really complex.
If you are asking for opinions, mine is, do it.
If it's for the better of the band, you should do it anyway. Even if you don't want to. Sacrifice for the better of the ensemble.
