Absolutely gorgeous and the color is so rich. An amazing piece that Spuntino will own with this creation. I have officially joined Spuntino as a salivating fan

Again, pardon the large pictures, but at least we turned the flash off this time. My skin tends to reflect flashes rather sharply. I'm working on a steampunk lolita outfit, though I hadn't heard of it at the time I started it I thought it would be a nice combination. I have a pair of goggles that has the elastic worn out and a missing nosepiece, so I intend to replace all that with ribbons. I also intend to put cream ribbons in the boots with bows at the toe and top of the boot. I was also considering buying a high-quality wig that would match the color scheme better and not wilt so badly over the course of a day. It just seems terribly lacking at it is.

I like the fabric. My biggest qualm is that the skirt is a big too long to fit the Lolita aesthetic properly, but otherwise the sewing itself looks pretty good.

Yeah, my thought on the skirt was to make it just a little bit longer, because short skirts just don't look right on steampunk. I feel a bit disappointed that in aiming for two things at once I managed to miss both rather than balancing them properly.

You see, I hadn't heard of anyone else doing this at all until I had already sewn the dress. I was the first one to the best of my knowledge, if not to the best of my common sense. I do think that adding another wedge to the skirt is a good idea, and since I have enough fabric to do so I think I shall do it. The difficult part, I think, will be adding to the ruffle. I do know how I will go about it, it will simply be tedious. I do agree it does need accessorizing in the worst way, I have been looking into watch parts and the feasibility of constructing a prop steam-powered parasol. I have since seen those communities, but thank you for linking to them.

You already mentioned that you didn't know that it existed at the time, so I was aware that you were doing so without any reference of other attempts at the cross-style, and I was not trying to be condescending, or put you on the defensive. Please don't feel that you need to constantly explain yourself regarding what's wrong with the dress. I assure you that I'm here to offer you completely constructive and friendly criticism. I've been a seamstress for 5 years, have since founded my own label, and involved in Lolita for longer. A prop parasol like that would be lovely. My favorite seller of Steampunk accessories would be SteampunkCellar on Etsy. http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6569662Pricy at times, but amazing quality and even if you don't buy directly from them, they're good inspiration of what to put together yourself.

My first DIY jsk. It's also my first sweet lolita outfit. I used a store-bought pattern (modified ever so slightly). I just need to add the "icing", so to speak. I'm thinking a couple of bows? Anyone have any other ideas for garnish? :3 Just a note: I do not plan on wearing this jsk with the pink blouse. My white one ran off somewhere, so I just threw on the pink. Face cut off due to incredibly bad hair day... Aaaand, closeup of the fabric and lace. heart http://www.flickr.com/photos/39768749@N02/3781704039/

Very cute! You did a good job. smile Maybe a small bow (about two inches wide) in front of each strap? If you buy removable pin backs or use safety pins, you can make them in a few different colors to change out. Some in the same fabric as the JSK, some in the deeper pink color, some in white, and some in that pale blue? Plus, maybe a larger bow at the waistline, with a pearl strand beneath it (white & pink pearls in different sizes, with a charm or two-- such as candy and/or cupcakes)?
