Hello smile It was awhile ago I heard about a paper written by Prof. John Hagelin called "Is Conciousness the Unified Field?".

That's pretty much all I know about the paper is it's name and author. I managed to find only small snippets of the paper here and there:

"Indeed, the phenomenon of levitation, with its implied control over the local curvature of space-time geometry, would appear to require the ability to hinction coherently at the scale of quantum gravity, which is the assumed scale of super-unification and the proposed domain of pure consciousness. In this way some of the sidhis, if demonstrated under laboratory conditions, would provide striking evidence for the proposed identity between pure consciousness and the unified field."

He talks about a lot of wierd stuff i would be interested in reading about. Has anyone heard of this paper/theory or know where I might look for it?

if you have heard of it, please tell me a little bit about it even if you don't know where i can find it XD

Thanks ^_^;

edit: Actually, any comment about what you would assume the subject matter is from that snippet, even if you don't know of the paper, would be really appreciated too. I basically know nothing about what he is talking about.

Psy-powers in general would basically destroy both physics and neurobiology.

To be able to affect spacetime in a local region that far away from the source with no observable effects on any path between the cause and the effect sounds to me like a break in causality. QM seems to violate causality, but quantum information cannot carry motive force, especially on the magnitude of levitation. There is nothing that can cause at distances without travelling between the source and the effect.

Generating such force from the human brain, which has no output except for nerve pulses and very weak electromagnetic waves, would basically invalidate everything we think we know about neurobiology.

Now, I can't just dismiss him as a crank because he studied under Professor Howard Georgi and I know that Georgi doesn't just teach anybody, but this smells a lot like new age pop-sci. In fact, the assumed existence of "pure consciousness" reeks of new agism and pseudoscience.
Of course, were psy-based levitation to be observed scientifically, then he might very well be correct; we wouldn't be able to tell, however, as both GTR and QM would be horribly violated.

thanks for the reply smile

yeah i really hope to go fairfield, iowa and learn from this guy, he teaches at Maharishis University of Management.

I found out more information about him. He studied transcendental meditation, which comes from vedic tradition that teaches techniques for yogic powers like levitation, seeing the future, and that kind of thing. I still can't find more information about his essay though...

i think he makes a new model of the universe... and conciousness is included in that model.

but i know from vedic science that conciousness is the source of all creation.

You know, even highly-intelligent people can make huge errors of judgement and end up as cranks, just well-educated cranks.
