laughingpiggy well the thing is that it's easier to pick out problems in a small band because there's less to look at. I guess in a way the larger bands are cheating a bit But In a way, smaller bands are "cheating". Writing music so it balances with a 130+ horn line Is a lot more difficult then making 15 horns blend and balance.

I know it's only spring marching band and we only do parades, but I haven't been in the fall season one so I haven't been to competitions yet. Anyway, our band, including the colorguard and drum major, we have exactly 20 people... 2 colorguard, 4 percussion, 3 trumpet, 1 sousaphone, 1 bass clarinet, 2 tenor saxes (I'm one of them!), 1 alto sax, 3 clarinets, 2 flutes, and our drum major... I think that's why we're combining with like four other bands for the Momorial Day parade.

when I was in highschool we had the smallest band in all of our region i cant remember the exact number but we were in the single A division ie tiny bands. but when we were at our smallest we were constantly placeing in the top. unfortunatly my last year we did a phantom of the opera show. that i personaly think rocked, we even had a mascot that year a stuffed aligator dressed like the phantom, but the judgeing was really split, but back to small bands SINGLE A BANDS CAN ROCK IT LIKE ITS NOBODYS BUSINESS!!!

In the state i live, we have 1A bands up to open class. I don't know the exact numbers for each, but we're the only 1A band in the region. Also, us 1A bands, don't like American Fork much. They are insanely amazing and i believe open class. If you have enough people to fill up the entire football field, 1A bands don't like you very much. We're a 4A school with a 1A band and not much funding. But we sometimes work hard and usually kick a**. Last year we got a best percussion award with a four man drumline. >.<

Holy crap dude! We had that problem too!
I think we're over 30 members, but we're still pretty gosh dern small, and we got the worst score there at the competition.. only ones who made a 3 :l
We swear they were racist against small bands! Lol.

That's the most ANNOYING thing in the world.
The bigger the band... the more likely the win.
Last season, a band with 190 people won first place. They played so quietly and didn't even make forms that could be identified!
I guess in America... bigger is better...

I guess in America... bigger is better... I know. We have the smallest band in our class, and we never win. But after every competition we have parents from other bands telling us that they didn't know how their school beat ours.
