Coffee with Dorian Oh, this thread is so silly! Well, it wouldn't surprise me if all or most goths have or had went through regular periods of sadness, frustration, or anxiety, but "depressed" is a medical term which I don't believe defines the gothic subculture. Of course, an interest in the spooky is required, but as far as I know that doesn't spring from any kind of depression. cool I also have a tendency to be annoyingly cheerful. heart I agree and can associate myself with this statement.

Umm, I don't know. I'm depressed every once and a while, but not because I enjoy the gothic subculture. I get depressed because life is always beating my a** and still is in fact.

not all goths r depressed. im goth and i can be both happy and angry most of the time. im bipolar so it works both ways for me. we r not emo

Not all goths are depressed. Black clothes don't have to be depressing, if that's what you like. If you like metal or "goth" music that happens to have angry or negative lyrics, it doesn't nessicarially make you an overall angry person. I suppose it comes down to what you like and who you are. If who you are is someone who enjoys the "darker" side and it makes you happy, how is it depressing? If anything, knowing you like these things and knowing this is who you are should make you happier.

Teriyaki Tsubaki Depressed? Isnt that emo kids? No, you're thinking of "stylishly" apathetic and "stylishly" being a killjoy. Can't say I've met a subculture that legitimately is made of depressed people... except maybe inside of clinics and support groups.
