Chapter 16
Locke was getting ready once again to travel into the jungle to get some food. Walt watched him carefully as he packed up, thoughts ran though his head wanting to go with him so bad. His dad, Michael was playing with Vincent, Walt looked at him wondering if he should go with Locke without Michael knowing. Walt cautiously walked to Locke keeping his eyes on Michael, making sure he didn't see him. "Mr. Locke, i was wondering if i can come? I really want you to teach me you know how to hunt? Or get food or something?" Walt whisperd.
Locke was always skeptical about Walt going with him. "Does your dad approve?" Locke asked zipping up his bag.
Walt sighed and looked down and shook his head, knowing Locke wouldn't let him go without his dads permission.
"But he won't mind." Walt said assuringly to Locke.
"Okay... come with me." Locke said putting on his bag.
Michael was just about to ask Walt something when he looked up and didn't see him he shouted, "Walt!"
He sighed, Walt was always out on the run doing things. Michael couldn't blame him though, he is a kid.
"Hey, Sun. Have you seen Walt?" Michael asked. Sun was nearby helping Jin catch some fish.
"Yeah, he just went into the jungle with Locke." Sun responded.
"What?!" Michael said in disbelief. "I told him not to go with him anymore."
"What way did they go?" He asked Sun.
Sun put down the fishing net and pointed to the right.
Sayid was comming to the beach at the time with the water bottles he got from Sawyer, Michael ran into him on his way to find Walt. "Sayid have you seen Locke and Walt?" Michael asked.
"Sorry i have not. But have you seen Shannon?" Sayid asked afraid she was mad at him for not being at the beach in time.
"Yeah. She was pretty upset man." Michael said recalling her fight with Boone about Sayid.
Sayid sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. "What happend?" He asked.
"She was yelling at Boone, the usual you know." Michael responded, he kept glancing around him keeping an eye out for Locke and Walt.
"She didn't happen to be talking about me, not being at the beach on time." Sayid said interested in what Shannon had to say.
"Yeah but i didn't hear the whole thing." Michael said.
"Alright. Well i better get going. Good luck finding Locke and Walt." Sayid said walking to the beach.
Michael watched Sayid leave out of sight. "WALT!" Michael shouted waiting for a responce.
"That was your dad." Locke said to Walt, he knew it wasn't okay with Michael that Walt went with him. But Locke liked teaching people to do what he does.
"So? He doesn't care." Walt said hoping his dad would go in the opposite direction.
"HEY! Walt... i told you not to go with Locke on his weird island adventures!" Michael lectured him.
"But i just wanted to learn what---" Walt tried to explain but what cut off by Michael.
"No buts Walt, get to the beach." Michael demanded. Walt stood there wanting to argue but figured it was no use.
"NOW." Michael shouted pointing to the beach. Walt listened and walked back to the beach. He waited until he saw him on the beach so he could talk to Locke.
"Man i told you before! I don't want my son walking around the jungle without me!" Michael yelled at Locke.
Locke remained calm and said, "Walt just wants to learn what i do, he's with me. It's alright Michael i know what im doing."
"I don't know you! I don't want my son hanging around you alright? And next time he asks you tell him no alright?" Michael said annoyed.
Locke nodded, "Alright Michael. See you at the beach."

Chapter 17
Sawyer sat at the computer annoyed. He knew it was Jacks turn to push the button but he hasn't come into the hatch yet. Sawyer eagerly stared at the hatch door waiting for it to open, he knew exactly what to say to Jack. Slowly the hatch door opened. "Well doc, took you a while there. I ain't going to sit down here staring at---" Sawyer stopped his rant when he saw it wasn't Jack that came in, it was Kate.
"Oh hey Freckles." Sawyer said and tapped his hands on the computer desk.
"Jack's not comming to take his shift." Kate explained, she grabbed a chair and sat down next to Sawyer.
Sawyer sighed and shook his head, "Do you know why not?" He asked.
Kate shook her head, "He wouldn't tell me." Kate glanced up at the timer. "How long have you been down here?" Kate asked a little angry at Jack for leaving Sawyer down there.
"Long enough Freckles. So i guess you want to take my shift? Isn't that why you came down here?" Sawyer asked eager to leave the hatch.
"Well i guess im going to have to now." Kate said, she put up her hair into a pony tail.
Without saying anything Sawyer walked to the hatch door. "Button free." he mumbled leaving the hatch.
Kate sat in the hatch alone looking at the music records on the shelves. She blew off the dust of one and put it in the record player. Before she could play it she heard a noise comming from the bathroom. She walked closer to it with caution. The door was shut, she put a hand on the door knob and tried to open it... it was locked. Kate knocked on the door, "Is anyone in there?" She put an ear to the door, she heard the water running. She banged on the door even louder and yelled, "Hey! Open the door." She listened again, the water turned off. "Kate is that you?" A voice said from in the bathroom. "Who are you?" Kate asked.
The door swung open and it was Claire, it looked like she has been crying. "Claire are you okay?" Kate asked in concern. "Um yeah, i was just washing my face, got uh soap in my eyes." Claire said she looked around Kate as though she wasn't talking directly to her.
"Sit down, tell me whats wrong." Kate comforted her and put a hand on her back.
"Charlie left." Claire said sitting down. "What? Left where?" Kate asked, she had no idea why Charlie would leave the camp.
"I don't know, he just started yelling at me and then he picked up his stuff and left into the jungle. He hasn't been himself." Claire explained.
"What was he saying to you?" Kate asked shaking her head.
"He was yelling at me saying how i make him take care of Aaron all the time. And thats not true." Claire explained.
"Okay Claire. Don't worry, we will figure this out okay? Everything will be alright. Stay right here im going to go to the beach and see if any one can help okay?" Kate said trying to make her feel better.
Claire nodded and watched Kate leave the hatch.
Kate ran as fast as she could to the beach and stopped for a minute to catch her breath and continue running.
When she got to the beach the first person she saw was Sayid with Shannon.
"Sayid! I need your help." Kate said running to him and Shannon.
Shannon looked at Kate then Sayid and sighed thinking Sayid had to go on another one of his adventures.
"Whats wrong Kate?" Sayid asked.
"Charlie left the camp. Claire was in the hatch crying saying Charlie was yelling at her before she left. Something is the matter with him." Kate explained the story.
"Shannon do you mind if i go?" Sayid asked her knowing it botherd her everytime he went.
"Go head. Be careful." Shannon said. She was upset with Sayid before but she knows now Sayid only wants to help and she shouldn't complain. But deep inside she wanted to say no and to stay with her.
Sayid looked at Shannon, "You can come if you want." He suggested.
Shannon stood there thinking if she should or not. "I think i'll stay here. No way am i going into mystery jungle looking for a drug addict." She smiled and watched Sayid and Kate leave into the jungle.
"Wait someone has to be on button duty." Kate realized. She quickley ran back to the beach. "Hurley!" She yelled to him. He was talking to Sawyer, he looked at Kate and ran up to her. "Yeah, whats up?" Hurley asked.
"I need you to go on button duty please." Kate explained to him and left without an answer.
"Okay... guess im on button duty." Hurley said and continued to walk to the hatch.
Sayid and Kate entered the hatch and Kate saw Claire where she last saw her.
"Alright Claire, we need your help. Hurley is comming here to go on button duty. We need you to show us what direction he went in okay?" Kate explained.
Claire nodded clearly upset and got up and lead the way out of the hatch. Sayid felt bad how upset Claire was about this but he only heard what Kate told her want happend, he wanted to know details.
"What was Charlie doing before he left Claire?" Sayid asked.
"He was just sitting down in his tent and really was doing nothing." Claire responded.
"Don't worry Claire. We will get this all sorted out." Sayid said and put a hand on her sholder. Claire nodded and pointed out where Charlie went. "He grabbed his stuff and went this way." There was a visable trail of footprints going north.

Chapter 18
"Why do you think he left?" Kate whisperd to Sayid making sure Claire didn't hear their side conversation.
Sayid shook his head, "Why would anyone want to leave?" Sayid questioned instead of answering Kates.
A faint sound of gutair strumming was heard by Sayid, "Shh... do you hear that?"
Kate and Claire stopped walking and heard the tune. "Is it Charlie?" Claire asked half afraid to even see Charlie.
"Theres only one way to find out." Sayid said running towards the noise. He causiously moved around making sure he didn't make too much noise so if it was Charlie he wouldn't run away.
Sayid jumped to the exact location he heard the gutair noise... but nothing was there except Charlie's guitar.
Claire and Kate close behand Sayid were thinking the same question. What?
"I don't understand it was playing a second ago. There is no way Charlie could have ran that fast." Claire said thinking of an explaination.
"He must be near by." Sayid concluded. He swiftly turned every corner quietly in search for Charlie but was no where to be found.
Sayid, Claire, and Kate turned to the place Charlie's guitar was, and it was gone.
"No way! We would have heard him, we were right here." Kate said confused.
"We are not going to give up." Sayid said in determination. "These footprints don't even make sence, look, they are going this way then turn right into this tree... there arn't even any branches, then the footprints go into the bush... there's nothing in the bush. Then they completly disappear." Sayid noticed. "He's trying to trick us. He doesn't want to be found."
"What are we going to do?" Kate asked without thinking one answer to her own question.
Sayid sighed and scratched his head and thought. "We could split up. But that could be far too dangerous, Charlie is acting far too strange, who knows what he is capable of."
Kate had experience in the outdoors tracking she had a thought. "We could, thats the best thing we got for now. I will go by myself, i tracked before i can do this. Claire you can go with Sayid."
Sayid nodded, "Okay. Be careful Kate. Listen we meet back here in an hour if you find anything bring it record everything you see. And if you are not back here in an hour, we are going to look for you."
Kate nodded agreeing to the plan. "I'll go east." Kate decided and ran off.
"I suppose that leaves us with north." Sayid said he turned around to Claire.
"You alright? Do you still want to do this?" Sayid asked. He knew Claire must feel bad about Charlie.
Claire nodded, "We aren't giving up." Claire said in agreement.
Kate walked while listening closley, she wanted to do as Sayid said. Her own thoughts about what Charlie was thinking were all jumbled up. As she walked thats all she could think of. Questions buzzed through her head, but every answer she thought of to them were just all speculation. A half hour had at least gone by since she left Claire and Sayid and she didn't find anything yet. She wonderd if they found anything. "AHHHH!" Kate stopped walking and turned around... she heard someone screaming. "CLAIRE?!" Kate yelled, she only heard her own voice echo. "SAYID?!" No responce again. She ran as fast as she could to the direction she heard the scream.
Kate stopped when she saw Sayid and Claire standing... looking at something.
"What happend?" Kate said raising her voice. "Are you okay?"
Claire and Sayid didn't even look at Claire, they were both looking at something intently.
Kate slowly walked towards them, afraid to look she slowly turned around. "Oh my gosh." Kate said under her breath with a long pause between each word.
It was a large deep hole, they couldn't see inside. "Claire are you okay? i heard you screaming." Kate said in concern.
Claire didn't respond she only shook."She almost fell in." Sayid explained.
"What are we going to do about this?" Kate asked referring to the hole.
"Im going down there." Sayid said grabbing a large vine off a tree.
Clarie shook her head, "No. It's too dangerous you can get hurt. Any of us can if we go down there."
Sayid didn't responded to Claire, instead he wrapped the vine around his waist and gave Kate and Claire the other end of it. "If i tug on this, pull me up." Sayid orderd the both of them.
"Sayid i don't think you should." Kate said.
Sayid slowly slid down the hole, Kate and Claire kept him up.
"How deep is it?!" Claire shouted down the hole.
Sayid couldn't see down there he only saw above him. "Maybe about 60 feet." Sayid yelled back.
Sayid was getting tired of going so slow, he rushed up a little bit and a little too much. His body slammed on the ground of the hole, he ached in pain.
"Sayid?! Are you okay?!" Claire shouted down the hole.
Sayid got up, "Im fine!" He shouted.
He reached into his pocket and felt a flashlight he took from the hatch and turned it on.

Sayid shone the flashlight in the hole and slowly walked through it. He stepped on something, he slowly removed his foot from where he heard the crunch it was a shatterd peice of clear glass. He examined it and wonderd what it was from, his attention was quickly caught on to something else he heard rumaging ahead of him. Sayid turned the flashlight off so he didn't scare whatever was in the tunnel. He stopped once he thought he was only a few feet away from the moving thing. He quickly turned on the flashback and shone it right in front of him. It was Charlie and he looked miserable. He had a stash of wine to the right, Sayid shone the flashlight to the left and saw another stash of pouches of herion then focused back on Charlie. Sayid slammed down the flashlight before it slowly flickerd off and grabbed Charlie by his black hoodie and slammed him on the dead end dirt wall. "What is wrong with you?!" Sayid shouted at Charlie.
Charlie was too disoriented to even comprehend what Sayid was saying. "Answer me Charlie! You know what it was that you have done wrong. You stay away from all of us." Sayid demanded and let go of Charlie. He left the flashlight and walked in pitch darkness.
