Neat things I did at War (in no particular order): 1) Went to war. 2) Shopped. 3) Took classes. 4) Retained for Her Majesty for about half a day. 5) Turned 21. 6) Worked for an acquaintence of mine (who's a merchant) and got free hosen! 7) Met my cousin Meg's father and stepmother.
Things I learned at War (also in no particular order): 1) Sunscreen and hats are my friends. 2) Pennsic water is icky, and makes my hair feel strange. 3) Chocolate moomoo from Cooper's Store is tasty-rific. 4) SCA politics still piss me off (if you didn't hear about the bruhaha with the Chiurgeons at Pennsic and feel the need to know about it, feel free to ask me.) 5) How to make bobbin lace. 6) How to do lost-wax casting in bronze. 7) How to make coins. 8 ) It's fun to buy things, especially at Midnight Madness. 9) Raunchy pewter pins are very, very funny when you're in the right mood. 10) Butterscotch schnapps + Bailey's Irish Cream + half-and-half (or whole milk) = DELICIOUS 11) The queen is a very nice lady, and her hair is both very long and very pretty. 12) We need to either pack much less crap or get a truck... or both. 13) His Excellency of Windmaster's is a neat human being.
And... should things go well, and should the Laurel (and I) so decide, I may become apprenticed in six months. In the mean time I'm learning way more about bobbin lace and other fiber arts than I knew before, so whether things proceed along apprenticing lines or not, I'm going to be getting a whole lot out of my relationship with this Peer... besides which she's a fantastic person, and I'm looking forward to getting to know her better.
All in all? Badass event, freaking SWEET war, I'm sorry I couldn't stay for the end of it, but I'm so, SO happy I got to go. I got to learn new and nifty things, got to meet new people, got to see a bunch of the friends who I've been missing terribly... it was a very good experience.
So... how was your Pennsic?

I live on the wrong continent, but some friends went there after their honeymoon... don't suppose you noticed a couple of Lochacians (Aussies) wandering around? One has *very* long red hair & the other is a rather hairy man with "shapely calves"...

Not entirely certain that it was that pair, but there were a number of peoples with lovely accents wandering around. We got your king and queen wrong, though... we were a few months out-of-date. >_<

I think the people at Pennsic need to keep in better touch with the peoples in Australia, though.

Things I learned at Pennsic:
New felt hats feel really weird. The firepit is not a toilet (j/k) People say (and do) strange things after downing a Flaming Dragon. Showers only put out water if they are turned on. The solar showers are fickle. The apple cobbler from the Fruity Cobbler is Huge (and tasty). Midnight Madness is crowded. Pillaged Village is Ginormous. "There is no problem so large, that it cannot be solved through the proper application of high explosives." (T-shirt slogan) It was a exactly a mile from our campsite to our car. Maps don't help unless you know where *you* are. Gorrilla glue cannot fix small innertubes. (Darn!) Portajohns are sweatboxes after noon. Tealights burn for exactly 4 hours, then go out. You CAN survive for a week without Television! *gasp!*

Wonderful Pennsic! Wish I could have brought some of the lovely weather back home to hot/sticky Tennessee!
1. I learned two new forms of embroidery. 2. Pulled guard duty at Casa Barducci for the hoity-toity party. WOW! What an amazing place they have. 3. Had a ball at the A&S talking about my Celtic embroidery. 4. Took my bow and shot for war point for the first time. 5. Highlight of the party at Duchess Isabella's camp - the Knaked Knight! 6. Bought a harp. 7. Learned to do card weaving. 8. Spent much time with friends I do not get to see half as often as I would like.
Now if the laundry doesn't get me all will be well!

Let's see. . . things my lord and I learned at Pennsic. . .
~Always have at least 2 bottles of hydration handy at all times. I recommend Pennsic Crack (thank you, Fredeburg).
~Midnight Madness is. . . magic.
~A tent/pavilion that may be big enough. . . won't be (enter The Grotto).
~I. Like. Mead. Specifically Saffron Sac (Bouf! I need more! xd ).
~Thrown weapons kick a**.
~Nudity is Period (inside joke. . . whee ). On that note, I definitely need more garb.
We accompanied Master Michael Alewright to the AEthelmearc Bardic Circle, and my lord got up enough courage to play a beautiful Spanish-sounding ditty on his guitar-- which so impressed one of the bards in attendance that she gave him a little blue abalone ring, explaining she does it for everyone who impresses her. Elian, wherever you are, we loved hanging out with you! heart
There was so much to see and do that I honestly can't think of it all right now; I'll come back and regale everyone with more, if I think of it. 3nodding
Oh, almost forgot: Happy Birthday, Llel! heart

Thanks for the birthday wish! Hope your birthday is equally awesome, and I'm so glad you had a good Pennsic, sorry we didn't end up meeting up. Hell, we may have seen each other and just not known it.

Understand, Alex is a friend I had since I was... um, since I was. He's a little older than me, which means he acts a little younger than me. Watched the shop alot, but still did everything I wanted to do (except that class on Tarotici, but I rather read a book on it anyway) Played a little D&D with Alex, made another character I may never get to use at all. Chat might never be played again. Sorry, Chat. Started another comic, and got some scripting done for KCSA. Emboried most of the ultimite tunic of ultimite destiny. Taught Alex how to draw. Attended Alex's wedding. O.O Chased the groom out of the bathhouse with a broom because he was late for the cerimony. ^^ Shopped a little. Hung out with Kiaya-chan. Mocked her love life. Had an H.P. Lovecraft dream. Must read more Lovecraft. Read more Diana Wynne Jones. Avoided sunburn till the last day. Learned how to magic away a tan. Saw that cool one-armed guy again. Got trashed and beat up that mexican dude. (This is all Cuberry's fault!) Pennsic is good.
