Hi, I thought it appropriate to do this to help new users orient themselves within the Physics Guild a little better. You will find four amazing subforums (as well as the main forum) at your disposal for topics, questions, and debates on Physics.
____________________________________________________________
In the Structures, Mechanics and Materials subforum you may post on topics relating to Classical Mechanics (Newtonian Physics) including kinematics and dynamics where you can have discussions about say forces and momentum. You can also talk about ideas for gadgetry here, including electronics and robotics (any ideas you may have or questions on how to build something) or help you may need with your electricity and magnetism courses (discussing electromagnetic theories and circuitry).
You may talk about the properties of structures (such as buildings, bridges, towers), new designs and ask questions such as: will it stand? is it aesthetic? is it useful? Space colonies, artificial gravity, rocketry, and anything which requires use of Newtonian mechanics, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics to analyze it. Also anything within the scope of Civil Engineering is very befitting.
If you wish you can go into the detail of materials and nanoengineering. Talk about new and strange states of matter (though specific quantum mechanics questions and questions regarding the interaction of molecules and atoms are better suited for the High Energy and Quantum subforum) but you may talk about their macro properties, such as: elasticity, ductility, toughness. You may also talk about the endurance of the material (ie. ultimate yield, amount of stress it can withstand, and so on and so forth).
This is strictly an Applied Physics subforum intended for discussions of practical designs (and impractical if you may wish to do so) and questions about things we observe everyday.
