just realize that some people don't take authority figures as politely as they should. that and... get ready to be called a b***h.
on the bright side, you have a large flag you can hurl at them if the need arises.

Im in the same position. I just got guard captain and all the past were horible captains so it is my turn to turn it around. First I would say get to know your guard. I have a sleepover or everyone go to the movies or something just to have fun. The guard is like a family everyone needs to know eachother. This will also help you know how the person learns. Does it take one on one work or can the person learn in a group. Along with that, If the person insists on not doing what is told you can know if it is ok to yell or to take the person outside and have a conversation. People react diffrently to things. You dont have to be bossy to a point. reward the members when they do things good. give a 3-5 min break or something of that sort. Dont always have a strict personality laugh and have fun. Being a leader doesnt mean you have to lay the law down 24/7. You will have people that hate you and call you mean things but dont take it personally. My plan is im going to tell everyone to keep personal things out of practice as much as possible. I dont care if your boyfriend forgot your 1 year or anything. when you step into that guard room with the flag in your hand reflect your anger in the pole. Im having inspiration quotes i will read daily. There is much more you can do.. if you need help PM me.

don't be my cusin and tell the cg that they suck, she would tell every one that the show they just did sucked.
don't be like "my way is the right way" my cus also did this she would tell someone that thier hair was wrong just because they didn't do it the way she did her hair.
don't act like your the only perfect one.
don't yell at them all the time
don't make them do alot of "pyhsical condioning" for a small mistake
do be positive
do yell at them if the cg is in trouble(as a whole)
do ease up on them when you can
