Too Old For Gaia?
  Yeah, I get that feeling
  NO! You're never to old!

This topic says a LOT of what I've been thinking ever since I started on Gaia. I still wonder about one particular topic that keeps coming up time and time again...I used to drive school buses, and we were asked to report any suspicious activities that might indicate kids were getting abused or molested. What happens if we see something that we know isn't right? Do we let it pass, say something to them, or is there even a higher authority we could tell? I worry for a lot of these kids.
Parents should take a more pro-active stance on their kids internet use...unless they either don't care, or don't want to know.

Oh heya smile You found the guild alright, welcomes.

Unfortunately you will see a lot of questionable stuff on here. Sometimes people aren't always telling the truth about being abused or raped either. It's sad and sometimes there isn't anything you can do.. . sad

Every once in a while I feel a little silly, especially when I'm talking with someone through PMs and they turn out to be 13. That puts me at 10 years their senior, and it makes me feel a little creepy.

But then again I work at an anime con, I play video games, I watch cartoons and I still act like a moron, so there is some common ground there. Usually as long as I avoid getting too chatty with them it doesn't bother me.

Yes I too was feeling like I might be too old to be on Gaia, but someone who is also on Gaia told me that there are older people on Gaia and that's how I found this guild.

I do feel out of place sometimes. Thats pretty much why I keep to myself, and don't start talking to people. If I don't start talking to anyone they can't ask me for my age. but now I'm glad I found out their are other adults around.

Oh, don't get me wrong I'm still a big kid at heart and usually I'm either watching cartoons or playing video games, and I'm not saying that all people 16 and under can't hold an intellegent conversation, I'm just saying that more often than not it seems to drift into the old high school drama i try not to remember.

I actually met someone on Gaia that are still not over her high school drama even though she is 22 years old.

But yes I do feel too old sometimes. However, I try to bring some positive views and advice to the younger users here. (Not that they listen.) But honestly, I now understand how teachers can feel so helpless and frustrated and why so many of them go to bars after work. (I honestly still can't understand why any teenagers would be willing to remain computer illiterate in this day and age. Yet, they all want to be rich when they grow up.) <-- Sorry a tiny bit of a rant there.

I think one of the things that saddens me most is that maybe it's not an age issue. All those adult people who make our world poopy were once kids that drove our elders nutz.

I find it that you can still learn for the younger generations. I was raise what I call old school by my parents and that has helped me with my skills growing up for jobs and school, but at a price that I never really got to enjoy my childhood. Just because someone is younger than you don't think that they are silly or talk about silly topics because I hate to tell you but at one point we were all there.

Lessons from the Younger Generation:

-Materialism is everything, if your parents didn't get you an IPOD nano, your life is BLEAK... dispair

-Wearing black and having thick framed glasses makes you an intellectual. emo emo

-Whine about politics, but never take action to make a political stand for the things you believe in.

Contributions of Various generations:
Music:
Baby Boom: The Beatles
Ray Charles
Joni Mitchell

Generation x: Stevie Wonder
Pearl Jam
Nirvana

The Current Generation: The p***y Cat Dolls neutral
Avril Lavigne sad
Ashley Simpson gonk

Children are the future... that's why I'm building myself a bomb shelter and stock piling food. biggrin

I've been planning for the same...optimistic future myself since 1997, when I first encountered this new generation (I was a school bus driver...lol). God help us all. eek

I enjoy reading the posts in GD or even ED, I love Gaia. It makes me very thankful I'm an old person and most of that drama junkie garbage is behind me.
I wouldn't go back and be 14 if you paid me a million dollars.
I think that's what I like about this place most.... when I've had a bad day.
It could be worse, I could be 14, having to deal with teachers, pressures from peers, and showing up to school with the wrong style of shoes (which can actually destroy one's social life for months)
Yes I'll keep my 40 year old problems thanks very much.
Thank you Gaia for helping me keep perspective.
