Bloodline: Volgirre
Parent Clan: Toreador
Nicknames: N/A

Faction: Camarilla (Sabbat, formerly)
Disciple: Malcom Valentin Volgirre
Antediluvian:
Methuselah:

A secret lineage of Toreador antitribu, the darkly beautiful Volgirre were experts in the blackest pursuits of art, employing Vicissitude to produce twisted and horrific works of repugnant beauty.

As part of a secret agreement, the Volgirre have recently been allowed to reintegrate into the Camarilla Toreador, having defected from the Sabbat. The jaded main body of the Toreador Clan got centuries' worth of darker arts to enjoy as well as access to a Discipline uncommon among the Camarilla, while the Volgirre received false names and lineages to conceal their true origins from the other Camarilla clans.

*Note: as there is very little to base information off of, a majority of clan lore has been created by me in conjunction with all relevant Clan leaders.

**Note 2: Please dm/pm me if you want to make a Volgirre/had a clanless made and want them to be a Volgirre. Chances are I’ll say yes, so this is mostly so I can add them to the list (you don’t have to wait for permission to get them made, but that’s fine, just remember to send me the finished product). However, I ask you wait until I give the okay before submitting your vampire to the Bloodline masterlist. The same goes for embracings. I’ll explain what typically is required for the embrace, but if you give a good reason, that’s fine. Thank you!

The Volgirre are a bloodline in which every vampire possesses some claim to the same heritage. However, for most, it is slight, or may not even be true. But, as such, the Volgirre rarely embrace into their ranks (some case-by-case exceptions). It is a legacy a vampire must be born into. The bloodline has a very long history, though most of it is unknown because of their secretive nature. Some of the oldest Volgirre were even in Toreador before the current Disciple came to power. However, it was their expulsion from the clan that led to the Volgirre vanishing into the Sabbat.

A Volgirre, given her unique history, has no true last name unless she can truly claim to be descended from Malcom Valentin Volgirre himself. Only then she will be able to truly call herself Volgirre. Since their assimilation back into Toreador, many Volgirre have false lineages and names to disguise them from the Camarilla. These are only for the public, and it would be sacrilegious to teach offspring about their disguised lineages before they are Neonates. In this new delicate balance, it’s highly important that all members are aware and true to their Volgirre heritage (in other words, they love flexing their lineage).

It is up to each Volgirre whether she truly calls herself Toreador or simply mingles with the clan for publicity’s sake. Both of these are equally accepted within the bloodline. After all, they are still Toreador.

All Volgirre vampires have a fondness for the macabre and the beautiful. Whether it be a simple appreciation, or a penchant for arts such as taxidermy or the more gory painting with blood, a Volgirre is surrounded by this unique style. There are exceptions: the offspring of a Volgirre and a clanless vampire or a member of any other clan will not be scorned for lacking the classic penchant. However, they will still be surrounded by it, should they choose to connect with their Volgirre kin. These Fledgelings will also be welcomed into the broader Toreador clan if they don’t wish to mingle amongst the dark arts. All purebred Volgirre risk banishment should they scorn their ancestor’s arts. They are allowed to have opinions, but there is an extent to what is acceptable.

Quick Facts

Parent Clan: Toreador

Sect: Camarilla (cannot breed/mate with Sabbat)

Clan Requirements: An obsession with beauty, a penchant for any kind of arts, and the weakening or lack of a moral compass.

Clan Strengths: Perhaps even more alluring than the Toreador, especially to those fascinated by the macabre. Their dark charms and sense of mystery draw many in.

Clan Weakness: All Volgirre thrive off of beauty, and are greatly weakened by a lack of beauty around them. If they are enraptured by an object of beauty, they are essentially single-minded and entirely vulnerable.

Appearance: Typically classy, but as long as they are clean and neat (or intentionally not neat), a Volgirre is happy.

Haven: Opera houses, theatres, fancy restaurants, and any space considered suitable to the masquerade and can allow a Volgirre to pursue her art. (Actors and operators of haunted houses are also likely to be Volgirre).

Background: The Volgirre are an antitribu of Toreador, who were once cast from their ranks to the Sabbat, but have now rejoined the sect and clan they originally came from.

Organization: Loose, informal, slowly becoming hierarchical. The Volgirre act as a family rather than an institution.

Quote: "Art is the truth. Life is the lie."

Once part of the Toreador, the Volgirre is a bloodline that has a very long history. However, most other clans, except for the Sabbat clans and for clans with good relations (Nosferatu). They were once a Sabbat clan, so it was impossible to fly under the radar of their Sabbat kin. However, the Sabbat typically tend to benefit from keeping the secret, so the Volgirre remain a secret to most (but most importantly, the Ventrue).

The Ventrue were one of the driving forces that originally cast the Volgirre from Toreador. Before Caius became Disciple, the previous Disciple had a decision to make. Give into the pressuring of the Ventrue, who saw the Volgirre as a threat to the Masquerade, or keep clan camaraderie. They eventually banished the small group of vampires, realizing that being enemies with the Ventrue, especially with such wildcards in their midst, wasn’t good for clan business. Some of the Volgirre lessened or hid their more gruesome ways in order to stay with the Toreador and abandon their true lineage. There is some lingering resentment among the Volgirre because of how they were banished. However, the older vampires who remember it have had a lot of time to cool down and many don’t hold much of a grudge, especially now that Caius graciously accepted them back.

The Kiss

The Volgirre don’t have any feeding-related compulsions. However, they will tend to feed off of only what they think is beautiful, given the great intimacy of the act. Unlike the majority of Toreador, the Volgirre don’t have any problem with feeding from their family members. After all, it is a darkly orgasmic type of beauty, a beautiful way for a mortal to die. Volgirre will typically avoid feeding from animals, but doing so is also not judged. Those who find themselves enraptured with the primal might feed from animals.

Relationship with Mortals

As essentially a part of Toreador, a Volgirre will uphold great respect to the Masquerade…. Usually. A little slip up now and then, for the sake of their art, is no problem. There are instances in which a mortal finds out about a Kindred; that mortal is likely to be sadistically tortured before receiving the Kiss.

If she falls in love with a mortal, in order to preserve the Masquerade, a Volgirre would usually have to give up her art. As the very base of the Toreador and Volgirre culture is art, the vampire will find herself growing depressed and more easily affected by the Frenzy or Obsession. This will naturally separate her from her clan as well. The Toreador, and therefore the Volgirre, are sensual and in control. Losing that control means becoming no more than a Malkavian. Some of these unfortunate souls are even cast from the clan.

Weaknesses

As a Toreador antitribu, the Volgirre are highly affected by an absence of beauty. Often, the Volgirre can find beauty in most situations, even resorting to hurting herself in order to supplement the lack. When all else fails, a Volgirre is greatly weakened by a lack of beauty, and the next beautiful thing they see will invoke Obsession.

Obsession is a curse of all Toreador. Sometimes, when enraptured with some specific thing, a Volgirre will not be able to do anything but take in that particular thing. If she does, she will only talk about what they are obsessed over, forced into almost a stupor until she can no longer hear or see that thing.

Structure

The Volgirre have no formal clan structure at all. Perhaps there are cliques or groups of Volgirre who cluster over even further shared interests, but they are not officially recognized. “Othering” isn’t encouraged. Volgirre are all Volgirre, and they are all just as proud to be Volgirre, so they embrace the sense of a massive family. They are informal with each other, even with the Methuselahs, Antediluvians, or the Disciple himself. The only recognized difference between vampires in the bloodline is who is older; respect your elders. However, this practice is slowly fading, because new generations of vampires find it harder and harder to connect with the older and often more powerful generations, creating a higher sense of respect.

A Volgirre who dons the name Volgirre will never romantically or sexually interact with another Kindred or mortal who shares the name. They are considered too similar in blood. However, otherwise, mating within the clan is encouraged to keep the bloodline strong.

As they are technically Camarilla, the Volgirre can only breed with/mate with Clanless vampires, other Camarilla, or Independent. However, the relationships between normal Toreador and other clans are not the same as with the Volgirre. For the most part, the Volgirre are generally indifferent to Independent clans.

The Ventrue and the Volgirre do NOT get along, and would not touch each other with a 6 foot pole. Volgirre vampires are cautious around most of the Camarilla (especially so with the Ventrue) but with the exception of the Malkavian and the Nosferatu. Don’t be mistaken, the Volgirre and the Nosferatu are not friends. They merely bond over a reluctant acquaintanceship forged from their ideas about beauty that are similarly foul to most Toreador. In general, the Volgirre could go either way with Sabbat clans. There may be lingering resentment given how the Volgirre defected back to Camarilla, but they do share some of the same ideas. Tzimisce, in particular, tend to get along well with the Volgirre. It is also important to note that Volgirre are unlikely to mate with normal Toreadors, depending on the circumstances. Your average Toreador kindred would likely not want to spend the rest of their life walking into rooms finding bloody walls called ‘art’. But, if it works, it works. I guess.

Note: the “true name” stuff will only really apply to roleplay circumstances.

I don’t mind what’s on the cert, even if they’re a Fledgeling, because I get not wanting to give them a false name later and instead just doing it from the get-go.

All that really matters is in roleplay, they will only refer to themselves (in thought/narration) as their first/given name, except when talking to someone they don’t want to know they are Volgirre, then they can call themselves an entirely different name or slap a random last name on there. Those with the name “Volgirre” (ex: Marissa Volgirre) are less likely to be concerned with concealing their true identity.
