⇨☾⇨Rogue climbed the hundreds of stairs with Chance once they returned to the academy. The look of wonder in Chance's eyes from his imagination was intriguing to Rogue. He tried to pretend like he did not notice even as Chance's excitement lifted his mood. Once they entered the academy, he found a classroom and walked through the backdoor. This took them to a small training yard just off the classroom's exit. "I think this spot'll do." Rogue sounded more comfortable and casual than the tenseness that he displayed during their first real mission. He pulled a book from his trenchcoat's breast pocket and began reading up on soul resonance focusing. "This book's got sum good pointers." Rogue spoke with his characteristic southern twang as he felt more at ease within the academy's walls. Even in the midst of this comfort, however, he was tensing up by the prospect of submitting to authority. Rogue stuffed those thoughts down for now as he showed the book to Chance. "Well, ready when you are." He remembered the first time that they resonated. The intensity of their connection made him nervous to try it again. He could only hope that they would be able to control it better this time.

      • The prospect of their resonance training was a really exciting thing. When they'd first done it, it had felt electric. He'd never felt anything like it. It was like an out of body experience, except he was more aware of himself and of Rogue than anything else. He really did want to experience it again, but it had come so naturally the first time. He was a little nervous about trying to do it on command. His best performances were by the seat of his pants, not anything rehearsed.

He skimmed through the book Rogue showed him, but the way his Meister was standing made it clear that this wasn't going to be a study session. No, Rogue wanted him to do the do right here and resonate. "Uhm, shore. I reckon it'd be easier in transf'rmation." He exhaled shakily, but Rogue made him so nervous that Chance turned around. Rogue just looked too expectant - he didn't want to let down his hero.

He took another breath, then transformed into a revolver, flying backwards towards Rogue's hand. If Rogue grasped his grip, he'd begin to channel his soul energy outward, much like how some Meisters performed the wavelength attacks. His energy ebbed and flowed as it did naturally, but this time, the ebbs and the flow were wider and stronger than before. It wasn't totally steady like Sage wavelengths, but if Rogue could match his rhythm and output, they could start cycling feedback through each other.

⇨☾⇨Rogue easily caught Chance in his hand. The revolver grip was perfectly comfortable in his hand as usual. He inhaled deeply to calm his nerves before channeling his soul wavelength into the gun as well as outward. He felt butterflies of his own in anticipation of the intensity of the soul wavelength connection. Rogue waited a few moments before realizing that their tempos were not matching quite like they did before. "C'mon now." Chance would hear Rogue huff in frustration as he strained trying to establish a connection. Insecurity overwhelmed him. What if the first time was just a one-off? What if their souls were not as compatible as they thought? Would he have to abandon his new partner? How would that impact Chance's life? Rogue felt panicked and anxious as he kept trying to focus but nothing was coming. "Damn it." He sighed angrily before he kicked a rock with intensity. He imagined Chance's face after he lectured him earlier and just did not want to put him through that again. What was this feeling that was overwhelming him?

⇨☾⇨At some point, something in him reminded him to stop fighting it. He now started to feel something. Like Chance was encouraging him. He could feel the gears turning as he tapped into the essence of his partner's soul. The moment that he stopped forcing it the whole process got much easier. Chance's soul was fast, intense, and unyielding but also smooth in its own way. No doubt that Chance would feel the adventurous and bumpy hum of his own soul. Rogue could feel himself sweating a bit as he tapped into Chance's spirit. Suddenly, they would both see each other in an empty voice if they closed their eyes. Rogue felt himself drifting into a calm and telepathic room. His body in this room was formed from rose-red energy and Chance was blue. This was unlike anything that Rogue had ever experienced before. They were in flow and the feeling was reminiscent to the first time although there was no telepathic connection quite like this. It was so compatible, so easy, so natural. "Your energy, it...repels. It goes off the trail naturally. Just like mine." Rogue sounded confused because he was seeing something so very unexpected. It was a pleasant surprise but he was still confused. There was no logic to any of this. "Y'all a rich kid! The rules work for you. Why don't you follow them?" Rogue was convinced that Chance was a conformist. Life was working out so well for him that he had to be, right? But there was no denying that if this was what his soul wanted then it was an ironclad reality. Chance was a rebel too. It was clear that he had been misunderstanding his partner the whole time. Rogue was worried that he was tricking Chance into being more like him. Maybe he had been just like him the whole time.

⇨☾⇨The cogs were surely spinning now and Rogue felt nothing but invigorating adrenaline.

      • Chance laughed as their wavelengths started to line up. They began to share the same mental space, appearing to each other in soul-colored visages. Rogue's wavelength was domineering but fun, and it bounced against Chance's in a way that he had never experienced with anyone else, not that he was all that experienced with Meister partners.

"Yeah! Mama calls mah soul rowdy," Chance said as he laughed again, overwhelmed with a positive energy that kept spilling out of him as laughter. He felt their minds, bodies, and souls speak to each other on an indescribable plane. It felt natural and supernatural all at once. "I don' need rules when I follow mah heart." It was an embarrassingly vulnerable sentiment, but Chance admitted it without an ounce of shame or hesitation.

"Ah feel like we could take down ah whole army!" He felt more powerful than he'd ever felt before. Surely, the two of them could take down any threat, any threat at all. "Yer soul and mah soul want tah be heroes, ah can tell. Wouldn't get along so damn well if naht."

⇨☾⇨This connection he was feeling with Chance was overwhelming. He had never experienced this kind of joy before. Rogue smiled effortlessly before approaching Chance. He wrapped his arms around Chance in a warm hug. "Sorry again about what ah said earlier." Rogue expressed his regret again for hurting Chance's feelings by threatening to leave him. "We'll be partners forever." His words were genuine and heartfelt as his soul embraced Chance's soul.

⇨☾⇨Suddenly, Rogue and Chance would refocus on the real world. Rogue realized that he had just been standing there the whole time, lost in thought with Chance. He felt invigorated and motivated as spirit energy flowed through them. He began spinning the gun rapidly with the trigger twirling around his finger. His full resonance with Chance allowed him to shoot three bullseyes in a row using the training targets in front of him. The gunslinger fired with effortlessly perfect accuracy. The blasts were so much more powerful that they exploded and destroyed the targets. He held the barrel up before blowing away the gunsmoke. Rogue smoothly holstered the gun at his waist before exiting soul resonance. This was Chance's cue to exit soul resonance with him and reform into his human self. Rogue was now determined to be more patient with his partner.

      • Chance was overwhelmed with happiness at Rogue's confirmation of their partnership. He felt the same way, and their individual devotion to the other fed into the other's wavelengths. After a few test shots, Chance transformed into his human form again, stretching his arms overhead once he did. "Ah like that," he announced comfortably.

"What oth'r trouble can we git in, you reckon?"

⇨☾⇨Rogue nodded his head as he tried to remember what their next few assignments were. "Let's find out." He walked back into the building and poured out into the hallway with the other students. He looked at his and Chance's mission roster. They had a rather interesting assignment that involved a corporation that was headquartered in the Death City Market District. "Ah see, looks like daddy warbucks at Conarca, Inc is a murderer on the side. Ah guess he got tired of only killing the poor figuratively and is taking the more direct approach." Chance would be able to read the information on the target. He was a rather famous executive and extremely wealthy. This was right up Rogue's alley and he was looking forward to taking him down now that he had established such a strong connection with his partner. Rogue then left the DWMA and headed toward Death City.

‘Interesting…’ Lila could feel the Madness leaving the librarian as the twins spoke to her. “So that means you’re new students at the Academy, huh? You picked a hell of a time to join, I guess.” The girl let out a breath as the constricting effects of madness left her patient. The librarian once he was cured spoke to her, chiming in about why he wasn’t the actual Meister to the twins. The lavender haired girl nodded once and took the cold cloth from the man’s hand. Placing it to her wound, Lila let out a sharp hiss of discomfort before the cold reduced the hot pain from her cut.

While she listened to the man’s explanation, something didn’t sit right with her. The Meister narrowed her eyes but said nothing. If he was going to kill them, he had more than enough chances to do so. “Right, wrong place, wrong time.” Lila didn’t sound convinced. Once the librarian was gone, the girl turned to the twins. The boy of the two was carrying his sister, and extending a hand to Lila as well. A few hours ago, the girl might have taken it without much thought. But enough had changed in the young girl’s life by now, and she’d already begun finding it hard to trust others. On top of that plus the madness storm, she wasn’t eager to take the support of people she’d just met. She’d even gone so far as to start to walk without them. That was before the world around her began to spin, forcing her to fall into Evan’s grip. As the two of them made contact, the residue of Lila’s calming wavelength would seep into the wavelength of the twins, curing them of the last of their Madness as they made their way to the DWMA. [Prayer Level 2]

Due to the wide scale destruction of what was being dubbed “The Madness Moon,” the nurse’s office was already full up with patients. As such, Lila had to be seen in one of the smaller classrooms. The makeshift nursing ward was filled with the hustle and bustle of trying to see as many people as possible. Evan and Emily would even be checked out for residual madness, a process much shorter than Lila’s check up but in a different section. “Lila, I’m so glad to see you’re okay!” Dr. Eraqus chimed as she finished placing bandages on the girl’s abdomen. “It’s tragic out there, how many students got hurt or worse.” The older woman scooted back in her chair to grab some pills and water for the young Meister. “But where’s your partner? I haven’t seen Esprit come through yet…”

Lila grimaced at the question. The words of her Weapon partner felt like knives in her heart, and she looked away wordlessly from the doctor. The older woman gave her a sympathetic smile and a relaxing hand hold. “You don’t need to talk about it until you’re ready. However, Lord Death did send me something for you. Excuse me, nurse! Can you send the Knox twins over here, please?” Once the two siblings had been summoned, Doctor Eraqus waved an opened letter around, one complete with the symbol of the reaper. “It seems like Lord Death already knows what’s going on.” She said as she skimmed the letter. “‘Lila Tora and the Knox twins are to be partnered, effective immediately. Due to the unpredictable nature of The Madness Moon, we’ll need all the help we can get.’” Eraqus she read in a mock voice of Lord Death's, then she sighed and placed the letter on the table. “He certainly wastes no time. But congratulations!” The doctor’s tired expression was wiped away and replaced with a broad smile. “A new team is always exciting, don’t you think?”

Lila clenched her fist wordlessly as the words from the letter rolled over her. New partners? Already? Like hell she was about to let that happen. The young Meister shot up from the desk she’d been sitting on, throwing her coat on with a dramatic toss over her arm. “Lila! Where are you going?!” Eraqus cried to no avail as the girl stormed out. The doctor turned to the twins. “You’ll have to forgive her, she’s recently lost her partner so I’m sure it’s still a bit of a sore subject for her. But she forgot these…” The woman held out a bottle of pills and instructions. “She needs to be careful or her wound could open up again, so can you two make sure she get these for me?”

When Lila left, Emily followed first. Evan was about to move when the nurse spoke up. He took the meds and gave her a bow. "Of course." He'd then walk to follow the other two. Feeling where his other half was.

Emily though, had skipped along and soon found Lila. "Hiya!" She grinned big and came in. Hopping up to sit on a desk near the other. "You know, Ev and I haven't had a partner other than each other... so... like... I don't want another person either. But we have to." She nodded. "And it's okay not to like us right now, but you know what? We are really cool people! And we are really cool weapons too. And I think you are cool too. And well we are new here... and I think you'd make a great friend! I want to go shopping, do you know a good yogurt place?" She grinned brightly, legs swinging as she leaned forward, hands on the edge of the desk.

Evan happened to enter the room at this time. "Emily!" He said softly, coming over to hug his sister, kissing her hair as he would then give her pets. "Calm that energy..." Evan continued to speak in his soft tone.

He'd then give a smile to Lila. "She's... quite an energy ball. But I promise, she means well." A small bow. "I'm sorry that they couldn't wait a day to inform us of things..." He'd look to Em. "Yogurt.... oh yes." He'd grin to Lila. "Frozen yogurt... it's our favorite. Emily likes the pineapple with coconut and strawberries. I enjoy the regular vanilla." Evans tone was calm, him being there allowed the room to feel calmer. Even Emily's energy was calming as he petted her hair. The ying to the yang. Balancing each other out. "The nurse has asked us to tend to you though... It will be a good way to be able to talk. Do you have a place we can bring you to? Or are you in the dorms provided by the school?"

Emily would lean into her brother and give him a hug. Her energy completely mellowed out. "Ev, where are we staying..."

He'd look down to her. "For now, the dorms... our stuff isn't quite here yet. Our parents said if we wanted a place outside the dorms they could help us. I think it would be better for you to have experience with others though." He hadn't... quite broke it to her they wouldn't be sharing a room yet. "You'll get a roommate."

    She'd look up. A frown.

A soft chuckle from him. "Don't worry... they have us in a co-ed house, I'll just be on the other side of the halls." He'd then look back to Lila, a small nod to say sorry for interrupting. Emily was very much a in the moment type. He was hopeful Lila would adjust okay to such.

When the twins found Lila, the girl had already secluded herself in an empty classroom. The lavender haired Meister leaned against the window sill, looking through the glass with a one thousand yard stare. A lit cigarette was placed between her lips, with the tendrils of smoke dancing in the light of the night outside. Why did Death have to pair her again? And so quickly? Lila’s wound throbbed as she thought about the betrayal of her weapon, forcing her to clench her fist. It was the only real movement in her dissociative state.

She wasn’t paying attention, so when Emily sat next to her, Lila jumped. Just a little, but she didn’t turn to her new partner. She just removed the cigarette from her lips and blew out a cloud of smoke shaped like Deaths mask. Though the next line of questions caught her off guard. Lila looked at the whirlwind that was Emily, surprised that she’d be recovered enough to rattle her mouth so quickly. Her cigarette dangled loosely from her mouth as she quietly stared at the twin. It wasn’t until Evan finished talking that Lila spoke up.

“Peaches and cream.” She finally answered, quietly. “My favorite flavor is peaches and cream.” It seemed like the Meister had finally returned to earth. “You two seem nice, so I apologize in advance.” Lila removed her cigarette and jammed it against the windowsill, extinguishing the embers. “But I don’t think this will work out. Nothing against you, I’m just not suited for a partner. But if Lord Death wishes, I’ll help show you around until he finds a better suited partner.”

The girl crossed her arms and met her gaze with the twins’. Her eyes were intense, focused. A far cry from how they’d been before the twins showed up. “My name is Lila, Lila Tora. I specialize in something called an ‘Anti-Madness’ wavelength. You might remember back at the library. Anyway, I live in Academy sponsored homes, but there’s currently no room for a roommate. I like to read murder mysteries and I like my coffee with three sugar, two creamer, and a dollop of honey.”

Her eyes narrowed slightly, a tell that she was focusing further. “And what about you? What brings you to DWMA so late?”
