User Image So — Dragomir had fallen down a hole.

By no fault of his own, of course! The Redwoods were nothing like the forest where he’d had grown up, which had been bright and full of life from the tippy-top of the trees down to the roots and even deep down under those. On the other paw, the Redwoods were dark and dead and, uh, full of holes, so that was why he'd fallen down here.

Obviously.

Not because he was naturally prone to distraction.

Definitely not because of that.

Drago sighed and stared dejectedly up at the faraway treetops and the mottled sunlight that seeped through the leaves. He found some comfort in the simple yet familiar beauty of the scene. After almost an hour of pacing and attempting (and failing) to free himself, watching a light breeze rattle the leaves brought a sense of calm and renewed optimism. He had been lucky after all that, despite the depth of this sinkhole, he suffered no injuries in the fall. Besides his bruised ego, that was. But! He had stopped by a river to eat and drink not long before his fall, too, and surely someone would find him before long.

He had nothing to worry about! Wolves probably fell down holes in these woods all the time. Packs here probably knew where every hole was in the forest. They probably had scouts specifically designed to check all the holes. That's how common this occurrence was. Yep. No problems here.

...Completely....fine...

Tossing back his head, Drago let out a whimpering howl, "Help!"

Einarr rarely went out on ventures, but after the berserker attack, he was ready to do anything he could to regain his honor in the pack. The beast had shaken up the pack, attacked his mother and he hadn't been able to do anything to stop it.

So, in a quest to regain prestige among his pack mates, he volunteered for every venture and challenged more than a few wolves to duels - winning them and slowly, but surely, making his way back to the smug knight, dashing and gallant, that he had been prior to the attack. He was already a mighty monster hunter, now he was ready to be a mighty champion of the Fallguard, too.

He'd strayed away from the other wolves on his venture, moving out into the thick of the redwoods that the 'guard called home. Who knew what they might encounter on this journey out? Would they have a chance to best a would-be threat? Would they uncover a secret stash of relics hidden deep in the woods? Or maybe Einarr would find a distressed damsel in need of assistance-

Wait, was that someone calling for help just then? His ears strained forward, wondering if he was imagining it. His paws turned in the direction of the imagined cry. Surely it would be worth investigating, right? As he got closer, he felt the ground start to loosen around his paws, indicating a sinkhole nearby. He made a point of treading carefully when - there! The scent of another wolfdog just ahead. He followed his nose until it led him to the lip of a hole and peered over the edge.

"Hello?" He called into the hole, his eyes scanning the hole for someone that may have fallen. "Is anyone down there?" His eyes were still adjusting to the dark soil and it would take him a moment to adjust. "Are you hurt?" As his eyes adjusted, he could make out the shape of a wolfdog - ah, there!

Drago waited, but no one came after he called. He called again after what had felt like an hour and still nothing. Above him, the sky started to darken — not a lot but enough to cause the worry in his gut to return. He called again and, after only few breaths, again. Logically, he knew that he was actually safer down in this hole in the middle of the night then out in the open, but instinct overtook that logic and insisted that the hole was bad because there was no escape; he was a sitting duck! Bad. Very bad.

His frantic pacing from before resumed and just as he was tipping back his head to let loose another call for help, he saw the form of another wolf appear above him. Their face was shadowed, but Drago could recognize the distinctive fluff and roundness of another wolfdog’s face. His hope soared.

Someone had heard him!

He was saved!

“Hello!” Drago called. “Yes, yes, I’m okay. In fact, I’m amazing now that you’re here!”

With a gleeful one-two-three swish of his tail, he placed his front paws on the side of the hole and stood on his hind legs. It brought him a smidge closer to his savior, even so that he could make out their features a bit better. All his previous worry felt distant. Enough so, that he almost forgot his predicament as he rushed to introduce himself:

“I’m Dragomir! New to the area, in case you couldn’t guess from the fact that I fell down this hole. I promise I don’t make a habit of it!” It was only after a rumble of laughter, he added, “Oh. Do you think you could help me out?”
