Where there is light, there is also darkness. There are people who are formulated in revelation, there are also those who are formulated in secrecy. The Magic Council forged another group yet, however, this group do not reveal themselves amongst the Saints. The Aíma is Fiore's secret service that works directly under the Royal Family and the Magic Council. This group is the only group of legal mages that is unhindered by the rules of the council especially in regards to killings and other activities that are specialized in Dark Guilds.
Because of its core views as "The unseen ones who support the Great Tree of the King from the depths of the earth", some of these missions were less than respectable, such as eliminating individuals that were considered potential threats simply for expressing their detestation for Fiore, despite not actually having done anything against Ishgar. The organization's top priority is its secrecy, and most of its missions were carried out in the dark.
Because of these acts, not anyone can be a member. Every member are handpicked by situation or serious tracking. The Aíma also must have undying loyalty to Fiore and Ishgar in its entirety. However, a member may be involved in independent and legal guilds if desired. As long as their secrecy remains intact and when summoned, it is mandatory with no exceptions to handle their given missions.
The Aíma leave no traces behind themselves whatsoever as it is the decree to stay among the shadows. Because of this, it is a myth of their entire existence.

The power of the Aíma is nothing short from frightening. Their strength and skill as individuals are known to rival and/or overpower any member of the Ten Wizard Saints even claimed to fair against the Ishgar Kings. Among each other, they are relative in power to balance with the skilled mages of light and to hinder any selfish desires of might amongst themselves. This is reflected by each member's legal ranking being of Master or S-Class.
