For days, Shadra had been gathering ingredients to restock her dwindling supplies at home. It was beginning to be quite tiresome and her eyes were starting to play tricks on her the more greenery she stared at. The ghoulie decided a break was in her best interest. She'd found a spot not too far out of the way and currently laid amongst the grass, watching clouds drift across the clear blue sky. Grimlock bobbed amid the waves of grass around her as if playing the part of sentry, always guarding his companion as she rested. Occasionally, her tail would sway closer, nuzzling against her cheek or pressing his “nose” to hers until she laughed quietly and bat him away. “Love Sshadra,” her tail laid across her chest, wedging under her chin to rest as well. Yellow eyes crinkled at the edges when she smiled, soaking up the affection from her tail for a moment longer before reaching inside the satchel to pull out a thin, leather bound book. Holding it above her, Shadra opened the cover and found her previously marked place to read over the notes of her last created potion's details. Hmm. It seemed she need to adjust the amount of mountain dust, perhaps add more jasmine. That may eliminate the after taste without affecting potency. For now, it was the best bet she had. Word Count: 227

Pumpkin Spice was out in the grasses, collecting crickets. He did not need them, but they were his latest interest. So far, his jar only had four, but he wanted to return home with at least ten, considering how that was the highest number he could count right now. Anything higher, and he would mix his numbers up. Fireside was still trying to teach him to reach fifteen.
A cricket was hopping a few inches ahead, and Pumpkin Spice playfully hopped after delicately. He did not want to crush anything, nor did he want to give his crickets that bad of a headache. "Come here, crickey crickey," he called, getting closer. When all of a sudden, the cricket decided to switch paths and go to the taller grasses. Pumpkin Spice knew that this taller grass was too tall for him to comfortably walk around. It was like a mini forest to him here.
The cricket took a large leap and landed. "Aha! I got you!" The foal hopped, but landed on a -- book? Pumpkin Spice scrambled, to see a ghoulie in front of him. He only knew one other, and that was Melty, but this was not Melty! There was more than one ghoulie? "Sorry, but have you seen a cricket hop by?" he asked. A foal like him should be scared of a ghoulie like this, but he was too concentrated on cricket hunting to even think of anything else.

Maybe a hint of Twilight Mushroom dust could add a bit of zing to this new concoction. Then again, it could-- Shadra's train of thought wrecked quite violently when suddenly the pages of her book were pressed heavily to her muzzle and Grimlock's head. Wide eyes met much larger, more youthful ones and the ghoulie watched as the foal's mouth moved, trying her best to track the movement and decipher the rather rapid spill of words. The only one she successfully caught was ‘cricket'. Her gaze held the orange youth's while she shimmied the book down, ignoring the struggling protests of her tail as she managed to move the book enough to shake her head. “Sstuck!” Grimlock whined, hissing his displeasure with the weight atop him. “Get it off!” Shadra narrowed her eyes at her tail, lifting the foal and book just enough to ease the little one off of them. With a curious look to the random pouncer, she closed her book and replaced it in her satchel. She then retrieved a piece of parchment and quill that she placed up the ground between them, looking down at the words that scrawled across the blank page near immediately. The foal's question from before, it seemed, as the word ‘cricket' stood out to her. Her ears twitched as she shook her head again. Unfortunately, she'd been so engrossed in her own notes, she hadn't seen a thing. Word Count: 237

Pumpkin Spice fretted, waiting for the ghoulie to give him an answer of if they saw a cricket pass by. As he waited, he began to notice that the tail seemed to have a mind of its own. He was fascinated. Intrigued. He couldn't stop staring at it. 'It's like having a pet with you everywhere!' Pumpkin Spice wagged his tail.
But then the main ghoulie started to write something. Pumpkin Spice did not really know how to read, but he did know the word "cricket" when he saw it! So they did see the cri-- no? The ghoulie began shaking their head, and Pumpkin Spice felt defeated. He pulled out his jar of crickets from the bag he brought from home, and placed it near the strangers. "Soooo.... no crickets? That's okay! What are you doing today?"

With her tail still grumbling from the impromptu pouncing he'd undergone, Shadra shook off the majority of her initial shock before watching the quill move itself across the paper as the orange foal spoke again. Such a curious thing! Her paw lifted to touch the paper but stopped as she realized her small companion may not be able to understand her written words yet. Her brow furrowed as she contemplated a simpler version of communication, landing on only one. The bright chartreuse of her eyes flickered to her tail. Grimlock had flopped across the ground, slowly inching himself closer to that jar of crickets the foal placed down. She reached out and poked him, earning a soft hiss before she seed to gain his attention. She motioned toward the foal, lifting her brows in an attempt to convey her request for him to act as her mouthpiece. Her tail huffed, turning away from her in favour of one more sneaking his way closer, now angled toward the foal. She jabbed him again, earning another hiss before he complied. "We resst," he supplied simply, flickering his tongue out as if tasting the air around him. Word Count: 194
