As she thought, none of them had any idea what was happening. Figures. This phenomenon, whatever it was, came out of nowhere, with no warning and no seeming rhyme or reason. The only factors that remained the same from one event to the next were that time stood still and the five of them went unaffected. The earthquake’s new, Cam noted as she recounted and compared both instances in her mind. No strange voice this time either. She blew out a breath of annoyance. Of course, something odd had to happen on the last day of school. Nothing in her life could ever end normally. “We’re fine,” she said to Raenna, glancing sideways at her. “Well, if you call being stuck in the middle of a Twilight Zone episode, fine that is.” Her aggravation was clear in her tone and features. Turning to Vincent and Jay, she folded her arms across her chest and added, “I’m with Jay on that one. None of us know anything about that sort of science. Unless we can break the science club out of—” Cameron waved a hand about, gesturing to the room at large. “—Whatever this is, and have them do some serious nerding, out then we’re on our own. Which means we probably won’t be able to fix it.” The teenager knew that being pessimistic wouldn’t necessarily help matters. Yet, she couldn’t help but feel a sense of dread and discomfort. There had to be a reason for this to be happening to them. But what was it? The answers sat locked away, somewhere beyond their reach, and that bothered her most of all. The not knowing and the waiting.
Finn wandered up, pudding cup in hand, after a moment. Her blue eyes darted over to him once he added his own question to the mix. “Obvious answer is what Jay mentioned- distortion in the space-time continuum and rupturing laws of physics. But I have a feeling it isn’t even that simple.” She folded her arms across her chest and leaned her backside against the table. “We need to figure it out though. And fast. Once we get the ‘what’ then we can move on to the fixing part. One thing’s for sure.” Cameron looked at the odd assortment of individuals surrounding her. “Whoever or whatever’s responsible must like the five of us…or have it out for us…” The thought sent a chill down her spine. If they could just continue with the mundanity of the day, then that would suit her just fine. Unfortunately, Cam didn’t think things would end up being that easy for them.
