Phoenix's ears went back at his words, a scowl merged with the concern on her face. "Of course I trust you! What I don't trust is this storm." She nudged him to keep moving, her tail tugging his and her shoulder pressing him forward. "We need to get to the shelter and warm up. You can be mad at me later, after you're warm and rested." As if to emphasize the state of the weather, the wind took the moment to howl through their little band, flinging the snow about. The deceptively fluffy flakes now felt like tiny little shards, pricking her skin and catching in her mane. A rather undignified squeal left her as she ducked her head against the onslaught. "Please." She begged now, pleading. "Please, lets go. I also need to know you are safe and right now, you're not."

Latcho takes a bit to process, but he starts moving. He seems to have lost the drive that was keeping him going, but Djilia and Phoenix are able to keep him up and moving, with the twins occasionally pushing from behind. It feels like an age before they reach the cave. Even if they'd had the strength to talk, the wind whipped away any words. But a few minutes after spotting the cave they were inside. It was much cozier with so many sheltering there, and the fire was a blessed relief. Cam and Sonkai move past, taking their brave mouse friend to the fire, where a few of the other mice hurry to help their compatriot. Djilia helps get Latcho settled. "We'll talk later. I'll send some mice over with warmed mash when it's ready. Let me know if you need anything." The words were directed to Phoenix, Latcho still in a bit of a daze. Then she gives the pair as much privacy as they can get in a rather crowded cave.

Phoenix didn't think she had ever used so many of her muscles at once, and for such an extended period. She could only focus on keeping him going, putting one hoof in front of the other in a rhythm she almost got lost in...until her hooves struck stone and she almost stumbled into the cave when she didn't have to use as much force to get through the snow.
She gave the mares a grateful smile as they brought Latcho to the fire. Before she could settle though, she went to the side where she had found warm, if not slightly worn blankets tucked behind some of the piled wood. She pulled out one and shook it out, then offered it to the mice before going back for the second one and doing the same, except she draped it over Latcho, carefully arranging it away from the fire but covering him as much as possible. Only then did she tuck herself next to him, gently draping her neck across his shoulders. She felt like she needed to fill the silence with words, but she wasn't sure what to say, unable to land on any one thing when there were so many she could start with. For now, she settled on looking into the fire, maybe it had the answers.

Latcho feels the warmth of the fire, then the blanket. But he's still lost in the exhaustion of overworking an undernourished mind. He doesn't quite fall asleep, but his thoughts drift in and out of coherence. Shortly, several of the mice push two rough bowls over. One in front of Phoenix and the other in front of Latcho. One of the mice stays and scurries up the stallion's neck. He starts untangling the mess of his mane while talking. "You need to eat, your safe, your warm. There's love all around you. And right in front of you is some warm mash. You need to eat." Baxtalo continues in this vein until Latcho starts eating. Then he falls silent and just works on the tangles of his friend's mane. Looking over at Phoenix, "I'm Baxtalo. Latcho sort of mentioned you. You don't seem like you have a melted brain. That is good."

An incredulous laugh left her before she could stop herself. It sounded too loud in the somber quiet. "Melted...brain?" She looked at Latcho from the corner of her eye as she tentatively tried the offered warm food. Was that what he thought of her, then? Why he had left, and now, treating her as though she was delicate, breakable? Perhaps there was a misunderstanding somewhere. She willed herself to eat the mash, she suspected it was delicious, it certainly helped to warm her from the inside. She was startled then when she was met with an empty bowl. Had she really eaten everything? "I've heard of you, too, Baxalto." A smirk "Though nothing about a melting brain."

Baxtalo nods, still untangling Latcho's mane. "He never tried to heal me. So he didn't have to worry if his curse changed my thoughts so I would like him. He really likes you, you know. He didn't have to tell me, and I'd have known. But he did tell me. Alot. Over and over. Apparently you are perfect." The mouse says all this very matter of fact. Not complaining, just relaying. In the mean time, Latcho has also finished his mash and is starting to look more aware. Though not completely present. "Am I dreaming?" His soft voice barely carrying far enough for her to hear. "Not dreaming," Baxtalo says as he patiently works out another knot. "Am I dead?"

Phoenix nodded, what he said made sense - to an extent. "I definitely don't have any mind-altering side effects." Her cheeks colored again, blushing at the route her thoughts were taking, before startling at Baxalto's words. "Ah - I don't know about perfect." But she couldn't deny that she was pleased regardless.
She turned her attention to Latcho, who seemed to be coming back to himself a bit. At his second question she nipped affectionately at the corner of his mouth, right on the swirl she loved so much and murmured, "Definitely not dead." A smirk, "Though I'd find you there, too, just to be next to you again." Was it dramatic? Maybe. Was her stallion also dramatic? Yes.

Latcho finches at the unexpected bite. Baxtalo sighs and picks the tangle he was working on back up from where it was pulled from his tiny hands. Looking over, "Phoenix. Your here. And . . . And my family is here. I . . . I don't understand. I remember you coming. I went to hunt. How did my herd get here?"

"Because we were worried about you, you stubborn stallion." Sighing, Phoenix stands to give him space to come back to himself. Looking over toward the other four mares and smiling softly. "I waited, and then I met your family outside when they got here. When they said they were going to go get you...I had to go too." The walls had been pressing in on her and the silence was overwhelming. She hadn't noticed it now that she was with Latcho and the others. Huh. "Of course I'm here. I'd like to be where ever you are."

Latcho leans over and nuzzles her leg, "I'm glad you found me. I hated every moment of not being with you." His eyes feel heavy, being warm and full and safe for the first time in weeks makes fighting sleep difficult. A tiny mouse pat on the head, "Sleep. We will keep her safe." "Baxtalo? I wondered where you were. I didn't hurt you, did I?" "No hurt, just worry. Get family, save Latcho from his self. Sleep now. Lots of work to do. You are a mess." The mouse is just so matter of fact. A slight chuckle as he looks up, "will you be okay if I sleep? As much as they might look like it, this part of my family doesn't bite."

“Hmmmm…” She gave him a small smile as she looked at him, murmuring “Of course they don’t.” Leaning down she pressed her forehead to his, unable to keep herself from touching him in some fashion now that he was next to her again. “Sleep, I will be here when you wake.” Phoenix silently stepped away so he could rest and moved to talk with the other mares and mice.

Latcho leans into her touch, though his eyes quickly droop closed as she moves away. The mares look over as Phoenix approaches. "How are you holding up?" Djilia asks, a welcoming smile, make that two welcoming smiles, gracing her face and chest. Godi looks up and over, "Sorry, but, who are you? I don't recognize you from the herd." Cam and Sonkai bump the younger mare, "manners." And each offer Phoenix a smile as well.

Phoenix chuckles softly, not wanting to disturb Latcho so keeping her volume low. “I’m okay. I think a little keyed up from everything.” Appreciation blossomed in her chest for these kind mares. “I’m so glad you were able to come. He needed you.”
Her gaze moves to the blue mare, a grin making her cheese at the question.”That’s because I’m not from your herd.” A gentle flick of her tail while she looks at all of them in turn. “I’m Autumn Phoenix, but I just go by Phoenix. Latcho found me after I slipped down a snowy embankment. I was sitting at the bottom waiting for the bleeding so stop on my leg.” She holds out her right leg to show the set of scars there. The gash from her fall, and above it, the jagged wolf bite. “He healed me, y’know.”

Godi looks less than impressed, "He healed you? What's that suppose to mean?" Djilia reacts at the same time, "He did? That's incredible! I always knew he could, I just couldn't get him to try." She gives Godi a look before smiling back at Phoenix. "You are, of course, welcome in the herd. We're always happy to have those who see others with their hearts instead of their eyes." Godi, looking a bit chagrined, "Yeah, I guess you're not bad. You haven't even flinched at what we all look like. But outsiders are usually horrible and hurtful and stuff. You seem okay. But if you hurt my cousin, I'll have to hurt you, so . . . Don't hurt him." She's clearly trying to sound tough but doesn't really know how to sell it. Cam and Sonkai just try not to laugh at the younger mare before bumping her with their shoulder to remind her to be polite. "You're welcome with us anytime."

Phoenix tried to take the blue mare seriously, as she was sure she meant every word. Nodding in understanding but still, a smirk fought its way through the somber features she tried to hold on to. "I would never do something to intentionally hurt him." She promised as she slid her gaze over to his sleeping form before turning back to Djilia, eyes wide.
"You would...I mean." She cleared her throat and started again. "I'd love to stay and be a part of your herd and family." A blush crept up her cheeks and she ducked her head. "I've met plenty of others who...I guess would be considered "attractive" or "normal" by others standards but found that they weren't what they appeared to be, either."
