So why did I make this thread? Well I am person who loves various cultures and especially the food that comes with them, and I always love trying something. I wouldn't call myself a foodie but I do enjoy a good and hearty meal.
The main idea with this post it to share some of YOUR favorite dishes of your nationality. Heck it doesn't even have to be from your nationality, it can be from whichever culture you like!

As we all know, food is a thing that often brings people together, especially here in Denmark. So let me share with you some of the dishes I love. Much of it doesn't look like much, but the taste (to me) is just spot on heart

Frikadeller
Or some also call them Swedish meatballs, but I do believe they are different in some way. Serve either warm with bread and various pickled veggies for lunch, or as seen above with gravy and potatos for dinner.

Smørrebrød
This is something we Danes are famous for, our Smørrebrød. Open faced sandwiches on Rye Bread, topped with various cold cuts and toppings that compliment each other. These are not eaten as an everyday lunch thing, but reserved for special occasions.

Risalamande
Despite it´s French sounding name, this dessert is 100% Danish.
It´s the traditional dessert for Christmas in pretty much any Danish household after the Christmas dinner. It´s a creamy and rich rice porridge made from cooking porridge rice in whole milk, and when it´s cooled down it´s mixed with whipped cream and vanilla. Sometimes people put chopped almonds in it as well. It´s served cold with a hot cherry sauce on top. A common tradition is to place a whole almond in it and play a little party game. Whomever finds the almond and shows it off wins a small gift. Often a marzipan pig or chocolates. It´s often things you can share with the family.

Oh my what is that? The first one looks like Shepherd's Pie, but the other one... is it a lamb or pork roast of sorts?

That sounds so delicious! I would love to see pictures of your mother´s cooking!

I have somethings I´d like to share I also love to eat.

Flæskesteg.

It´s a pork roast with crispy pork skin on top! It is something people normally eat a few times a year but it is one of the main contenders when it comes to the number one thing eaten during the Christmas meal.
It´s served with sweet brown potatoes ( small white potatoes fried on the pan with sugar and butter till they look like on the picture), white boiled potatoes, pickled red cabbage, a thick and delicious brown gravy, and some top it all off with potato chips, like on the picture. My mother does it every Christmas.

Æblekage.
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Despite being called Æblekage (apple cake), it´s not really a cake. It´s more of a trifle that is served during summer here. A trifle with layers of whipped cream, chunky or smooth apple sauce and crushed macaroons. It is divine and one of the things I love to eat during summer~

Well, I have to admit I generally dislike Hungarian cuisine, but here is an exception. It is more of a snack that an actual dish, but I really like it.

It is called túró rudi, roughly translated to "cottage cheese rod", and it is a sweet cottage cheese covered in chocolate.
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
It is most often bought in stores (most of them are pretty cheap) , but there some recipes to make make them at home.
The cottage cheese is sometimes filled with jam or with a peanut cream. Some brands make túró rudis where the chocolate cover has peanut crumbs on it.

There is also a cake based on this snack, called túró rudi torta (torta=cake) :

It is pretty much a cottage cheese cake with chocolate on the top of it.

Oh gosh they look delicious! And I am especially a huge fan of cheesecake so it sounds like a fun thing, to try and make it out of cottage cheese instead. But they look so scrumptious~

Another Danish thing I love!

Jordbærkage / Jorbærtærte
A very popular thing to eat during summer where Danish strawberries are in season. It´s a pie crust filled with a Mazarin filling. It´s then topped with another layer of pastry vanilla pastry cream and garnished with tons of strawberries. Sometimes there´s also chocolate and fruit gel on the cake. It is so scrumptious!
