I remember my mom saying something about going into a Japanese-run department store and seeing everything in the store set out beautifully, with women waiting at certain points at the store, by the merchandise. She saw several things that she wanted to buy, but she wasn't sure if she should ask the women by the merchandise or if she should pick things up, so she just looked around and left without buying anything.
Is this normal in Japanese department stores? Either way, what do you do in this situation? Do you just pick something up or do you talk to the women that are standing around the merchandise?
