It seems America is in a state of denial. People that claim to be Evangelical Christians are simply paraphrasing scripture in order to meet their needs or even defend their beliefs? Recently, country singer Carrie Underwood stated "God loves everyone" and later implied that since this is true, homosexuality is fine. After reading that, I had to ask: has she even read the Bible? It preaches against homosexuality several times. The sin of Sodom and Gomorrah was homosexuality. Do you know what happened to them? The people of Sodom were burned to death. Homosexuality is a sin.
But as a Christian, we must remember our goal is not to change homosexuals to heterosexuality; it is to lead them to Christ. Afterwards, He may completely remove their desire for the same sex or they may still struggle. But it is up to him. We respond with love.
There are many (so called) Evangelical Christians today who say that homosexuality is okay and it is not a sin. That is very strange since Jesus Himself affirms the Old Testament word by defining marriage as one woman, one man.
"But Jesus loves everyone! So it must be okay. He'll still accept them into Heaven." In that case, there would be no point in Jesus dying on the cross; because Jesus loves everyone.
See the problem with that is Jesus loves murders, serial killers, rapists, and others. You know why? Be cause they are all sinners. Jesus' love for them does not justify their sin. If that were the case, killers should be allowed to murder anyone they please.
Someone who is not a creationist may say "I don't believe in god. Without using scripture, explain to me why homosexuality should not be allowed." Well, for one thing, if anyone can simply redefine marriage as they see fit, who's to say a father marrying his daughter is wrong? His son? Or bestiality? In 2006 a woman in England married a dolphin. In South Dakota, a woman married herself. There are set boundaries to marriage in society because without them, society itself would fall. Or to be even simpler, if you don't believe in a god (or God) that is sovereign then there is no absolute truth. So who are you to argue Christians are wrong if your only defense for why gay marriage is okay is your feelings? Keep in mind feelings a subjective and not permanent. You now have no basis for being right or wrong. Simply, you "feel". No God, no absolute truth. No wrong; no right. No good; no evil. And that, is a scary thought.
This statement is almost too common: "Science proves homosexuality is genetic and people can be born gay/bisexual/trans." Uhm... No. Science has not confirmed that at all. However, a study with identical twins was taken. The probability of the other twin being gay if the first twin is gay was 53%. If homosexuality was genetic, the probability should be 100% since they share the same genetic material. And to the point that people are "born" gay; infants aren't even aware of the sexes; let alone their differences. So no.
We need to be affirmed in our faith and by our faith as Christians. People say you can't legislate morality. That's incorrect. The only thing you can legislate is morality. It is just a matter of whose morality gets legislated.
As we face public scrutiny, remember that God is the only person you should care to impress; not our fallen world.
