I've never done a Series-based RP (other than a vaguely furuba-based one) but I adore Final Fantasy IX with my heart and soul and have thought about doing one. Once again, I've never series-based so I don't know how that works . . .
Oh, and I'm currently playing XII over. I never finished, just got to the lighthouse and started over (everything makes more sense the second time through).
I've also played most of VIII (didn't like it much), X & X-2 (3x and still not on 100%), FFTA, and both Dissidias.

Often it's same time period but alternate reality so the events of whatever game never happened.
