I'm getting freshwater fish soon and I was wondering if anyone had good suggestions on what fish to get.

What size tank were you planning on starting with? You'll also need to cycle it and decide if you want to cycle with live fish or without fish.

I just learned all this myself ^^ My tank has just finished cycling with two goldfish.

There's some great people in this guild that can give you advice on cycling.

First of all, how big is the tank you're working with?
Second, how many fish are you shoving in one tank?
Third, what supplies do you already have for your fish?

Please answer these first before we help you.

The tank contains 12 gallons of water.
I'm planning to get 5 little fishies at most.
I'm cycling it.
I've had fish before, so I already have all the necessary supplies.
I've only had goldfish and betta fish, so any suggestions for easy-to-care-for fish?

for a tank that small a betta is a good choice. you can also look into ghost shrimp, apple snails, guppies, neon tetras, and honey gouramis. all of those are pretty easy to care for and can do pretty well in a tank that size

I'd say a betta and a handful of cory cats.

Yes, I totally suggest the betta and corydoras. smile Right now I've got 2 cories in with my betta and they're best friends and absolute characters.
