Alright..so I've had a request thread for buying art for myself and friends since August. I've had various problems here and there with not receiving art or people just ditching out on me..

Just yesterday/today however I have a bigger issue. I commissioned an artist to do a piece in a certain style of one of my more bubbly and happy characters (the reference picture she is smiling, her description says her personality is only positive). I also had requested a certain style from the artist and directed them to a piece in their own gallery that I liked.

So when I receive a PM yesterday with simply a very hastily/sloppily drawn image that vaguely resembles my character aside from an evil/angry looking face..I don't know what to do. So I look at it, sigh, and decide..ok I'll discus it with them tomorrow.

Today, I receive two angry emails, one stating something along the lines of "YO LADY Y U NO PAY ME????" (and yes, they did say 'YO LADY' and the whole message was in caps. So at this point I'm pretty livid, and I tell them so, I state that what I was sent looks like a rough draft/work in progress and I'm not pleased with how my character is portrayed.

This evening they reply back:

Quote:
i put my heart into this
i wanted the cash
and she looks happy to me

but i guess it is your opinion
but i dont even know what to do with it

and sorry for bothering you i have been cheated out of gold before

and also another mail with this:
Quote:
btw even if you didnt like it
why didndt you still pay
because i spent hours on this trying to figure out what you wanted
i dunno i could have been doing something else
but i dicided to do artwork for you for payment
and you were warned before i do not often do no line work

For the record, I have not cancelled the trade, it's still lingering regretfully. If they wont offer to change it and I'm not satisfied with what I got, what should I do?

With the (lack of) quality I got compared to what I was expecting...they really do not deserve the amount of money they requested for the commission. I don't even know anymore, and it just pisses me right off when people blatantly ignore punctuation and grammar so that's not helping me think straight about this at all.

I've never been in this situation before nor put someone in this situation, so I don't really know what to do here. Help, advice, or suggestions as soon as possible would be appreciated.

If they don't change it to the what you like you are more than welcome to cancel the trade and report the artist, or, in this case, the pm as a scam.

Thank you for the input! I'll try to calmly ask them if the can put more work into the drawing and change the expression..if they really aren't willing to change it I guess I'll have to go down that route.

Thanks!

Ok..so I have a new problem...

Got this PM from someone I don't know but apparently knows the person I was having issues with.

Quote:
Hey you

You should go and pay *** **** ******* the commission fee right now. Or I will be reporting you of your cowardice of running and not paying for the art.

I just don't want to deal with this, I cancelled the trade, blocked the person I was having problems with and tough for them if they think they can be rude to me and give me crap that isn't what I intended to pay for. I'm not paying for less than half hearted work.

I'm not a coward, I'm just sick of this and I literally am getting anxiety from having to deal with this on top of RL stuff going on. Coming on gaia is becoming too much with all of this bologna I have been getting through my request thread lately.

Hello Amandelie,

We've been contacted by the user The Lazy Village, who claims that they did artwork for you worth 230k, but that you have not paid them for it yet. Your account logs show that there was a trade, but that it was cancelled. Is there a reason why you cancelled the payment for the artwork? Did the artwork not meet your expectations? Where was the agreement for the artwork made, was it in a shop in a thread, or via PM? If you could send me a link to where the original order for the artwork took place, it would help us resolve this issue faster. Unfortunately, if you agree to order art from an artist and then cancel the payment or fail to deliver payment without a valid reason, this is considered scamming, and scamming can result in a permanent ban on Gaia.

Please get back to me sometime before next Wednesday, November 23, 2011 as I'd like to resolve this situation to the best interest of both people involved as soon as possible.

Thank you,

Yes, I did commission The Lazy Village via my request thread here where I've had a number of successful transactions. In the past I have very rarely requested kindly that pieces be changed if a specification was missed and the artists have gladly complied and things were resolved in a civilized and polite manner.
I asked The Lazy Village to draw one of the bubbly and friendly characters in a specific style of theirs (which I linked them to through their Deviantart account and they agreed they would make draw in that style). So when I got something that I can only describe as an angry scribble I was not happy.
I waited a day before replying to let my frustration subside (along with having a headache and internet problems bothering me I didn't want to let my message become too emotional).
The next day when I logged on my inbox had been spammed by The Lazy Village asking why I didn't pay them and also referring to me as "YO LADY" and using horrendous lack of grammar and sentence structure. I was so flustered by their intent of shoving something half hearted and befitting of my character at me. If I can see brush strokes going out of the lines as if a child were scribbling, I don't think that is a 'style' that is sloppiness.
So I started a thread in one of my guilds to ask for advice here and the general consensus was to report it as a scam, which I did do. However I did ask The Lazy Village if they would make changes to the drawing in a plain way and they took quite the offense to it...at that point I was just so exasperated with the whole ordeal that I took the advice of my friends in my guild and also a friend who helps me run my request thread (who had seen the art as well as what I was expecting).
A day later I got a message from one of The Lazy Village's friends threatening to report me for 'being a coward' and not paying.
I really have enough stress in real life that I cannot deal with this 'artist' anymore, I do feel that I am the victim in this because I was nothing but nice and all the information for drawing my characters is laid out, along with the offer to ask me any questions needed. I will not pay for a job that was done poorly, if their art had looked like what they sent me of 'my character' I would not have wanted them to draw for me.
I hope you can help me in resolving this issue, thank you,

Amandelie
