Well, it all depends what style you like. I have artists I would highly recommend for both Pop and Rock, although for New Age I definitely recommend Rurutia.

Pop-
Megumi Hayashibara
Nana Mizuki*
Minami Kuribayashi
FictionJunctionYUUKA

Rock-
Garnet Crow
Orange Range
Kimeru*
Masami Okui
Aya Hirano (Yeah, she does have songs outside of Haruhi Suzumiya...)

*Asterisks mean these artists have songs that can qualify for a different genre*
I can send you links of requested. wink

Megumi Hayashibara - Successful Mission
Megumi Hayashibara - Deja Vu
Nana Mizuki - Eternal Blaze ((Yeah, yeah, I know. This was an opening theme of Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha. But this is the music video.))
Nana Mizuki - Shin Ai ((Yeah, I picked the one with the stupid ad before you watch it. Sorry!))
Minami Kuribayashi - Sweet Passion
Minami Kuribayashi - Shining Days
FictionJunctionYUUKA - Honoo no Tobira ((Door of Flames))
FictionJunctionYUUKA - Nowhere

Garnet Crow - Timeless Sleep
Garnet Crow - Doing All Right
Orange Range - Hana
Orange Range - Ikenai Taiyou
Kimeru - Spiral
Kimeru - Starry Heavens
Masami Okui - Shuffle
Masami Okui - Only 1 Number One
Aya Hirano - Speed Star
Aya Hirano - Love Gun

AND!
Rurutia - Selenite
Rurutia - Elements

And now, knock yourself out! biggrin Any problems?

You should definitely listen to Gackt and Miyavi, if nothing else--they are quite amazing artists, seriously!!!

Even though they're not Japanese, B1A4 has 3 AMAZING songs in Japanese. And SHINee has some pretty good and really good Japanese songs. (Korean to Japanese songs are always hit or miss with me)
And for some great Japanese Japanese bands I recommend;
Koda Kumi (Pop, female solo artist)
Hey! Say! Jump! (pop, male group)
Gazette (rock, male group)
SPYAIR (rock, male group)
Miyavi (rock, male solo artist)
GACKT (rock, Male Solo/Band)
Granrodeo (rock, male band)

Gackt- He has an amazing voice! His music style varies from album to album. To get an idea of difference look up "Vanilla" and "Hoshi no suna"
Two amazing songs that sound completely different and are by the same artist.
