Basic Information
The grenade luancher is essentially a stripped down Benneli M4 modified to use 25mm grenades. Notable changes include the lack of a stock, the ability to be attached to a weapon by picanty rails, the ability to be directly attached to specially designed weapons, and that the pistol grip is moved up slightly. The barrel length is that of the 14 inch version and the weapon is capable of both pump action and semi-automatic fire.
The weapon can hold up to 5 rounds in the underbarrel tube, and 1 in the chamber, providing total room for 6 rounds. Fully loaded the weapon is at or under 6 lb, depending on the type of ammunition used.
The effective range of the weapon is 500 meters, with a maximum effective range of 1000 meters. The maximum range of the airburst rounds, for human sized targets, is roughly 500 meters. This is due to the curved nature of projectiles, and for the laser range finder detonator to be accurate, the projectile must have a relativley straight pattern of flight. This limits the effective range of the airburst rounds, although the impact detonated or timer detonated rounds are capable of much longer ranges, easily out to 1000 meters. Against larger targets, such as vehicles, the airburst mechanism has an effective range of 700 meters, again due to the curved nature of projectiles in flight.
The weapon is designed to be used with a modified, stream lined scope capable of using a laser range finder. The scope is based off of the XM25, and is similar in every way except for the shape. While a fire control mechanism is on the grenade luancher, it is capable of not being used if impact detonated rounds are used. In all cases, range estimation, and therefore accuracy, can be affected by using the scope, and various types of electronic information can be used.
