The rules are easy :
Post one of your designs, or art piece.
Remember, only ONE design per post.
Follow the ToS of gaiaonline.
If you want to praise an art piece or design, posted by a user in the thread, simply mention "@username" and tell him/her what you have to say, and then post a design/art piece.
Try to make EVERY post in the thread consisting of one picture.
Try to make it look like a 'tumblr' photo blog. xD

that banner is actually a lot simpler than it looks. i'm who will explore first and then start messing with around with what i have.
i can't really make a guide for that graphic since i don't remember how i did it sweatdrop , but i can always give you the links to the brushes i used:

@Roxy : Typography is designs made using letters, words, phrase, basically text. It's a wide field in design to explore.
