Dubbed the PlayStation phone, the Xperia play was announced at mobile world congress over in Spain. The device had its own super bowl commercial here in the states. The biggest surprise about this phone is the carrier who will be releasing it here in the states.
Verizon Wireless.
WOAH I'm shocked by this. This is the first SE device vzw has gotten in a LONG LONG TIME. I'm surprised that a CDMA carrier will have it here in America.

I saw the ad for it on Youtube, although I am interested, if I get a smart phone it will be a RIM Blackberry in all likelyhood. Partially due to the fact RIM is Canadian and so am I lol.

From what I heard this is going to Rogers. Like I said pretty weird cause Rogers is GSM and vzw is CDMA. By all logic this should should have gone to AT&T or T-Mobile.
I'm due for an upgrade next month but I'm holding off on it. While having an SE device (since I'm such a Sony freak) would make me smile. There is stuff about this that I'm kind of iffy about.
Mainly the fact this only has 400MB of storage. THAT SUCKS. After dealing with my Droids little over 100MB of storage I swore I was getting a phone wil no less then 1GB. Even though Android has apps2SD support I still would like more storage.
Besides that the phone is just generic Android hardware. Snapdragon and what not. Nothing really "Special" here. I'd rather go for the Bionic which has Tegra 2 and some other bigger features.
Even then MWC had a lot to look forward to. I want an LTE phone but I also would like it to support stuff like voLTE and SVDO.
Just to say I would advise against BBs.

I suspect that Rogers does make some sense in Canada, if you cross into US coverage and your a Rogers customer (me), you pick up the AT&T towers.
As for the BB's, I have a few friends that have them and enjoy them over all.

It's like I said. SE hasn't released a CDMA device in close to 6+ years here in the states.
My guess is since Verizon is going so strong with LTE. SE wants to work with them on it.
Either that or SE wants more of an American presence. So far they've only been making low to mid end phones for T-Mobile and AT&T. AT&T got their smart phones, but they may want to expand outwards. In addition I don't think they sold well on AT&T. Kind of a no surprise cause AT&T (up till a few weeks ago) had the iPhone exclusive. So they where pushing that more then the others.
As for BBs. I know people who are crackberry addicts. IMO the BB OS is just really outdated and so is the hardware. Even with OS6 they just came out with. The Torch was a big joke IMO. Considering it was their flagship device the hardware was something that would have been high end two years ago. Meaning that it's low to mid range today. Which makes no sense considering it was their flagship device.
I think back in the day before WebOS and Android. BBs where the more consumer going. Verizon used to be really buddy buddy with RIM. They always go their top end devices first including exclusiveness to the Storm line. Since the iPhone was AT&T exclusive; the other carriers either had Windows Mobile phones (WHICH SUCKED) or BBs. BBS where the choice for a lot of people.
Now that we have Android, WebOS, and to an extent WP7. BBs just don't have that kick to them that they used to.
I know RIM is trying to compete with the flexibility of the above OSs. The PlayBook looks impressive but the fact that you need a BB to work a lot of the features just is kind of blah in my book. I know they've been working on some more higher end devices but it's still only shown in Power Points at meetings.
IMO if you're going to a smart phone I'd look into other better options. Or till RIM gets their stuff together.
Just my 2 cents.

Getting a smarphone is near the bottom of my list, mostly because of all the functions people have them for I'd only ever use some of them. I know more people that use BBs up here.
I cant bring myself to buy an Apple product and unfortunatly I dont see a real reason for me to get the Xperia Play, because I would not use my phone for gaming. Occationally checking e-mails while at work or textings, some of the more basic features are all I woiuld need.

Most people say that then once they get sucked in you'll wonder how you lived without it. rofl
I have a STRONG dislike for Apple so I would never go there. I'm torn on the gamepad on the Play. IMO this would be perfect for emulations. There are a TON of them on the android market. I use a GBA and SNES one. It would be cool to play them outside my house. As of now I use an app called Wii IME that lets me use my wii mote as a controller. So I can use the classic controller which works great for most games. Though it's mostly a at home thing cause why would I want to carry a Wii Mote/Classic controller around?
There are some others but they don't really matter.
