HEY THERE GUYS. I'm gonna hold an art contest soon, and I want some advice.
First, what would be an acceptable time span? I don't mind having it long, but I don't want it that long that it would turn off potential contestants. I wouldn't want it too short as I wouldn't really be getting the contest's prize worth. Second, what should the prizes and amounts be? I'm willing to spend all my gold in art, but not my contest. I want to make the best out of the gold, so I'm thinking about having it in the millions, but less than 10M. What prize would attract a lot of people, yet not damage my gold that much?

I'm currently selling ALL of my items. It ends up way above 10M, though. Still, I'd want to keep it below 10M. I'm trying to get advice from those who actually participate or have experience holding art contests.

I don't have experience running a contest myself, but personally, I've always appriciated it when there is more than just first place prize. So maybe give a first place prize of 3 mil, second 2 mil, and third 1 mil or something like that. Just a thought. Good luck!

For an art contest I'd say try to make it in between 4-6 months. This gives people enough time to work on there submissions for your contest : ).
As Om mentioned it would be good to have more than just first place prizes. A second place prize or even prizes according to picture type (ex: best cg, best traditional, most cutest ect.) is a good way of attracting attention : 3 Personnally if your price range is under 10 mill, I would make it something like first place 5 mill, second, 3 mill, third, 1 mill, and use the extra 2 mill for mini sub prizes like best cg 500k, best traditional 500k best chibi 300k and so on.... how ever you decided to devide it would be good.
Oh and another thing, you might want to consider using some of the extra funds for bumping contest. If you want your contest to get noticed, your gonna need to advertise it a lot, and maybe open a bumping contest, to get bumpers to bump up your thread 3nodding

I recently participated in a contest, the high amount of gold involved was what initially caught my attention, but i stuck around because of the multiple categories, and the option to enter into several of those categories.
What got me involved in the thread, or would have, if the host or anyone else had been around a little more, was that she'd randomly post "Pop contests" which would have a single category and a set number of slots. so the first finished drawings posted to the pop contest (they didn't count as entries in the main contest) got the slots. And once the slots were filled, a winner was chosen and they got the prize.
Which i thought was a fun, nifty way to keep people interested and involved in the thread.

hmm seems good, I would have a spot were people can see the submissions as well. A lot of the time people wanna see what other people have submitted as well. 3nodding

you might also want to tell people how you like art to be submitted. There was one art contest i was stalking where people kept asking.
