Hm. A Crane would be my guess...(Bad Pun damage!)
And if it is a round thousand pounds, then it must be a five-thousand ounce bird. After all, if a five-ounce bird can carry a one pound coconut, then logically, it would take a bird five thousand ounces (312.5 lbs.) to carry a thousand pound anything.

Oh...and please note that the airspeed velocity of such a bird is dependent upon its location of origin, be it Africa or Europe.
