Alright, I've tried to contact a couple of mods and have not received any responses. They are usually pretty busy, so this isn't really a surprise.
I have also been keeping an eye on the forums to see if anyone has had any luck, and it seems that i have found something useful.
Apparently the problem has been noticed and Devs are working on fixing the bug. I will now provide you with a link to my source and a quote of the first post.

i submitted a ticket to Gaia via the contact us link at the bottom of almost every page a couple weeks ago, since then, i've been talking to a dev, and have been told that Gaia is working on this issue! they have also, for the time being, removed the affected fish from my tank and given me drops for them.
The reason i have made this thread is to let everyone know that we are being heard, and that the Gaia devs are in fact doing their jobs. If you're still having this issue, make a thread about it in this forum, or if you really want to resolve this issue for yourself, submit your own ticket. Helping me keep this thread alive probably wouldn't hurt either.
I thank gaia for it's response to my ticket and my cries for help, and urge people be patient with gaia.
