The Wizard, the Witch & Two Girls from Jersey by Lisa Papademetriou

It reminded me of The Princess Bride in the sense that it was a fairy tale that mocked clichés. Two teenaged girls (one the bookish type that loves her family and the other the wealthy type that’s obsessed with appearances) get sucked into a fantasy novel that’s deliberately filled with clichés. They accidentally kill the princess and have to fulfill the prophecy that describes her destiny.

I was anticipating it being funnier, but I did like it, especially the final battle scene, which made me laugh aloud a couple of times. My favourite character was the Kiblar elf; he was considered an oddball among his people because he wanted to be a warrior instead of a cookie baker. rofl

It's not one of my favourite books, but it's a fun way to spend an afternoon (It shouldn't take someone more than a day to read.), and it would make a highly amusing film.
