The World of Ar'vena

(I know you guys must be getting sick of these, but this is another thread for just RP notes. The actual RP itself is in IRC.)

A strange world, quite different from our own, and yet with odd similarities. It only seems to be divided from our own world through a thin barrier of reality that some people – and other, mythical figures – can simply slip past. This is the world of Ar'vena. A world of magic and adventure, but one that is sadly dying. No one knows the cause of the earth's sickness, but lands that were once vibrant and alive are now pallid and struggling to survive.

Maps

Ar'vena is a large world, diverse in land and cultures. Maps of the world will appear here as I make them and/or as they become relevant in the story.

Eld'aven
__-Eld'aven is the country colored here. The red dot near the top of the map is the town Magnor, in Astrid - the country north of Eld'aven.

Characters

Penelope
__Played by Kerri
Rich, chocolately medium brown hair, about 5'5”, sophisticated. She's one of those girls who dresses in a very mature, sophisticated, and professional manner without even meaning to. 21 years old, she's in her last year of university, getting a Bachelor's degree in Drama. She has a habit of stuttering when she's nervous. She's a narcoleptic: falls asleep constantly.

Rickard Vyland
__Played by Roland
Rickard is 22 years old, fresh out of the police academy. He loves his job. Typical rookie cop here, honestly. He has a laid back personality, generally calm. A little on the tall side, thin. Well built. Blonde hair, kinda short. Really good with a gun and with hand-to-hand combat, since he's fresh from the academy.

Mariana Madelaine Cantos
__Played by pickles
Mariana. Age, 21. A musician, she sings and plays just about any instrument she can get her hands on. She's intelligent, but other than music, she has no real skills. She's a college student, a music major. She does a lot of singing on the streets and in clubs and such to make money. She's fairly tall. Black hair, green eyes, dark skin. (Olive skin tone) Friendly, outgoing, a generally nice person.

Jarrett Selborne
__Played by Pisces
Metal. I used to play metal to thousands of worshiping fans. Band's name is Cataclysm. My name is Jarrett Selborne. Used to be a bassist/lead vocalist. I have long, dirty blond hair, and green eyes. Just under 6'4" and well built. Now I make my living as an innkeeper/entertainer. Left the band because of drug influences. Tried to come clean.

Session Summaries

Session 1:
Our intrepid heroes, and by that I mean our unwilling and hapless characters, found themselves thrown into a most unusual situation. First an arrest is made, then they're having tea with a rather strange dragon, dragged unknowingly into another world. After the dragon left in a whirl of wonder at Mariana's musical talent, the three are off to find... something. A way out, preferably. Civilization at the least. And so our story resumes...

Session 2:
After the dragon Marlow left in excitement at Mariana's music, and the group encountered a strange crazy old man, our heroes left to try and find a way home, or to civilization. Seeing a trail of smoke in the distance, Penelope lead the group towards it, hoping to find people. On the way, Rickard saved a magical rabbit's life, and ended up making friends. Or, at least on his part. The rabbit appears to almost be in love with him. Once the group arrived at the town, the rabbit left them to their own devices, and they made their way to the temple of the moon goddess. Inside, not only finding beautiful and rich splendour, our heroes encountered the famous Oracle of Dolfi, who was not quite what they'd expected. The young girl Freyda channelled the goddess, who desired to speak personally with our three unwilling adventurers, and asked them to help save this world, promising to return them to their own world in return. Upon acceptance, the trio was housed inside the temple, and quickly fell asleep.

Session 4:
Last session our gallant... oh who am I kidding. Last session our average humans we are following around and playing as, which is a little creepy if you really think about, left the temple of the crazy a** moon goddess and were riding along, la de da de DA, when they came across a bridge. Now, on the way, they'd seen bridges with be-U-tiful gardens but this bridge's garden wasn't done. Poor inferior bridge. So there's this soldier, right? And he DEMANDS a bridge toll, because he's obviously a douche. Or just doing his job, I guess. Weirdly, the bridge toll is not money, but a decorative shrub, or the equivalent of three roses. In any case, we didn't have it, so we went to pick flowers. While doing that, Mariana got lost, like, twenty feet away. What's up with that? Fairies are up with that, that's what. She went and almost got caught by some gorram fairies. Anyways, one kinda friendly one named Pith introduced himself, then she rejoined her friends, and they all crossed the bridge. Yay.

Session 5:
Our heroes found themselves facing a grand river, so wide and deep it was like a rip in the very fabric of the world. Or so a bard might tell it to be so. It was, however, swollen with the spring runoff from the mountains, and much too wide, deep and swift to get their horses safely across. The encountered some loggers who were collecting great trees that were floated down the river, and with the advice of one man, Finn, they decided to stay in the nearby town for a week, to catch a ride with a boat going downstream to the south. In the inn and tavern "The Flying Pig", the brave Rickard found himself confronted with an arm wrestling competition. And though he didn't win against the strongest - but none did - he made friends with the locals, Mariana made friends with Finn, and Penelope made friends with some of Mariana's money. They were settling fairly well, and though this world was still strange to them, it seemed that it wasn't going to be as inhospitable as they had once thought.

Session 6:
Our intrepid heroes found themselves in the daring escapades of eating breakfast. Mariana tore through the bacon like the ferocious beast she is. While doing so, a mysterious man in black (and khaki) appeared behind her, causing Penelope's fork to clatter to her plate in shock, sending pieces of poor butchered egg flying. This man turned out to be Jarrett Selborne, a famous metal bassist... who they only knew about vaguely. Freaked out as hell, the group dragged him upstairs to explain to him what was going on. After gallantly sort of getting the point across, they took him on a fabulous shopping spree for new clothes and shoes and stuff! then retired for the night.

Session 7:
Poor narcoleptic Penelope got up and wandered in the night, leaving the group to wonder where she'd gone. As they went to investigate, a blood curdling scream directed them to Penelope in the stables, pinned down by a drunken man trying to get his trousers down. Rickard punched him in the face and the man fled in terror, and Jarrett mysteriously disappeared. After the confusion was sorted out a bit, and our gallant heroes told the esteemed innkeeper what had happened, Penelope dragged them to a mysterious fountain with naiads and dryads. They told Mariana of a fairie city in Eld'aven to the south, where they'd been headed anyways. The group returned to the inn, and partway through dinner were interrupted by there being a theft! With the help of Pith and the rabbit, the culprit was apprehended, and the sailor who'd been burgled sought to repay his debt by getting his captain to offer to the group work on his ship, heading south. All in a day's work for our heroes, of course.

Session 8:
Our last session, so long ago it may have drifted away into the dark recesses of your minds, took place in the town of Magnor, in southern Astrid. Our adventurers, having gotten a job on a ship that would sail out a week hence, decided that today was a lovely day for a picnic. Jarrett mysteriously appeared and joined them, and they wandered on the shore of the great river that passed through Magnor. Music was played by Mariana and Jarrett, jokes were made by Penelope and Rickard, and a sound was heard behind them. Lo and behold, a unicorn appeared to them, filling them with peace... and in Rickard's case, fire! The grass under his hands was set aflame, and after putting it out, the group went back, puzzled.

Session 9:
What ho, in our last session our grand adventurers boarded their south-bound ship, so they might go to Eld'aven to seek out information about the fairy kingdom. Finn decided to join them on their journey, for reasons possibly unknown to the group, though his big smile at Mariana might have been a clue. Possibly. If this ship were a row boat, and Finn and Mariana were gliding smoothly in a lake, various aquatic animals might be singing to get Finn to do something romantic, but we'll not get into that. Instead, we're on a ship, and this ship has a rat problem. Namely, the rats talk to our adventurers, and like to indulge in gentlemanly occupations such as discussing philosophy, drinking tea, and having jealous wars with their neighbours. Our heroes get dragged into the middle of the fight, and roundaboutly kidnap the leader of the fierce hold rats. And so our adventure resumes.
