A song from a public TV station I recently heard has more musical and artistic value than 90% of the crap out there in the mainstream. Save the ending, the song is more ingenious than almost every mainstream song I've heard to this day. I took the liberty of uploading for people to listen themselves. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TA6JYUbYXM

Personally, I found it a bit dull. Although yea, it's still way better than most mainstream music.

The verses are rather typical but the chorus is what sets it apart. If I were to grab that chorus and stick it into a full orchestra and add some heavier dynamic contrast, it would alone be 10 times better than any popular song today.
