So, I recently got my hands on the Serenity RPG handbook (Again, thanks Pisces) and I plan on GMing a campaign in the IRC channel. I'll leave my notes here for reference.

Story:
Pretty sure most of you are familiar with the storyline. These events start two months after the news of what happened on Miranda became public news. Alliance control has weakened, making more jobs available, but they are still there.

Story for those who don't know of the awesomeness that is Firefly:
The year is 2519, roughly. Earth could no longer support the vast amounts of human life, so everyone went off in search of a new solar system. What they found was actually a few solar systems somewhat closely knit in a way that the planets of this system work somewhat like states or provinces. They are allowed to rule themselves somewhat, yet they are also under the rule of the Alliance at the same time. These planets were terraformed, a process that makes an otherwise uninhabitable planet liveable.

It wasn't always like that. At first, the planets ruled themselves. Simple as that. However, the Alliance started to take over. The rebels, more commonly known as the Browncoats, fought back hard, but were eventually defeated.

Nowadays, after the war's over, many people just focus on keeping their jobs and keeping alive. Out in the black, a ship will give you work. A gun will help you keep it.

The culture in this system is a little odd. Everyone came from earth, yes, but instead of everyone splitting off into their own little groups again, they all combined. The two biggest cultures merged into the culture that we have in this system today, which is English and Chinese. It's very common for someone to go off into a random swearing spree in chinese just seconds after he was speaking english.

The central core planets are rich places where the fancy people go to fancy parties in fancy clothes and talk fancy words. The border and rim planets, however, are a little less civilized, and daily living takes on more of a western/pioneer feel.

Announcements:

8/28: gonna take out the stats of each character and instead leave a bio. That saves room and keeps stats a bit more private. Instead, I, the GM, will keep a copy of everyone's character sheets. The player will keep track of their own sheet as well.

8/28: One more change, this one is purely storyline though. Instead of the time being two YEARS after the Miranda Incident, it's going to be two MONTHS. Make any necessary changes to your characters.

Characters

Leon Garrik
Played by: 0-0Roland Deschain0-0
User Image

Leon is a war veteran, as is clearly indicated by the browncoat that he always wears. He hails from Whitefall, where he actually got to be in good graces with Patience. After the war, Leon drifted about the system as a fighter on a crew, the whole time secretly stashing cash away so he could buy a ship he had waiting for him back on Whitefall. Some of this money may or may not have been obtained fairly, since some of the crew noticed that there always seemed to be less loot to go around.

Once Leon finally had enough money, he fled the angry crew and found his way back to Whitefall to see destruction. He later found out that the destruction was caused by an operative of the Parliament in an effort to catch a fugitive, which only fueled his hatred for the Alliance more. Luckily for him, Patience was still well, and held onto his ship for him until Leon got there. It was also on Whitefall where he met Jolivette, who had been staying with his parents while looking for work.

Shortly after getting the ship, Leon made the extremely dangerous flight to Persephone, where he parked the ship while he looked for a crew. It's been there for two months.

Jolivette "Joey" Brentwood
Played by: Kerrigan_dragon
User Image

Jolivette Brentwood – more commonly known as Joey – was born on Newhall, a border planet that specialized in the filtration and export of water, usually for use in terraforming moons and planets, as good water isn't always a common resource in some places. Having grown up surrounded by water, she has an extensive knowledge of the sea and most things about the water, but the oceans of her home never called to her heart like some people. Instead, after finding a dog with a broken leg as a child and fixing him up, she decided that she wanted to help people by becoming a doctor. She would have become a veterinarian because of her love of animals, but she has an allergy to animal dander. She worked hard to get good grades in school, and when she graduated she went to the Alliance Medical Academy on Osiris. She wasn't in the top 3% of her class, but she did well in school, and did some work for one of the big corporations on the planet to help fund her schooling. She graduated with good marks, and left the planet because of a disparity of opinions with her employer. She has done some general practice, but ended up moving farther and farther from the Core Planets to help people who needed it more, but good paying jobs became more scarce. She stayed on Whitefall for a while, looking for work, and found a nice family who let her stay with them, and told her that their son was becoming captain of a ship and needed a crew. She was keeping her options open, however, and looked around for word of other job opportunities as well. When she was on one such excursion to the city on Whitefall, she came back to discover that the house she'd been staying at had been destroyed, and the family she was with had been murdered, every one of them. Soon after, Leon landed on the planet, and she joined him.

Dimitri "Twitch" Ross
Played by: Kusaragi
User Image

Dimitri Ross was born on the mining planet Regina. Both of his parents were killed in a mining accident when he was 19. Soon after he was drafted into the Alliance military. His experience repairing the mining equipment of his town and constantly defending the cache from bandits earned him the rank of Private, and engineer of the Alliance gunship "Requiem" After several years of loyal service, and watching his commanding officer torture entire families for information on the Browncoats, Dimitri had enough when he witnessed the Federal Marshal obliterate an entire town from orbit.

After sabotaging the engines, and jettisoning the escape pods, he hitchhiked his way off the planet leaving his former crew floating out in space. his own actions lead him to drink regularly and he's constantly looking over his shoulder for the enemies he knows he made.

His short stature of 3'10" makes it so that he can crawl into nearly any location and he compensates for his stature by working on his physical prowess. He's also not the best face on the block, wearing a perpetual scowl to join the various scars on his face. He doesn't take guff from anyone and can be highly abrasive in casual conversation, and always speaks his mind. He would always prefer to tinker with tools or work with the engines rather then actually TALK with anyone.

He's slow to trust anyone, but once he does he's willing to stake his life on their welfare.

Cameron was born on Beaumonde to a Chinese mother and Caucasian father, both factory workers. Her father taught her to shoot a gun when she was seven, while her mother taught her more womanly skills like sewing. Her father joined the Independent cause, fought in the war, and was killed, leaving Cameron with a lasting hatred for the Alliance. Due to this, she kept practicing until she was an expert in just about anything that shoots. Once she turned eighteen, she began doing odd jobs around the planet, finally leaving at age twenty-three to find other opportunities. Her travels took her to Persephone, where she is currently looking for someone to hire her.

Bryce Petersen, born on the planet Persephone, was raised in a dysfunctional family of five. His parents were always fighting with each other and other people, while his two brothers (who were twins) became crack addicts. At the age of 17, Bryce had had enough of his family and ran away. Bryce managed to find a home, living in the basement of a Chinese family's house. He earned his credits with a job at a local supermarket, and by age 20, he had saved enough to buy his first gun. A sniper rifle. Leaving the Chinese family, Bryce found a job in being a Hitman, killing off people others wanted dead. Keegan Bellmont
Played by: x-Dark-Pisces-x
User ImageUser Image

Keegan grew up in a very privileged part of the beautiful city of Lu'Weng, and was raised by his mother and older brother, Miko. A prodigy in many ways, his mother saw no other future for him than as a Companion, and she shaped his childhood thusly. From an early age, he was pampered, instructed, educated, and trained. Everything from his speech to his stance was critiqued and corrected, he was taught how to eat, how to dress, and even how to breathe in the most distinguished manner. By the age of 14, he was already a promising Kung Fu student, had professional-level skills on violin, and had written several essays, including an award-winning piece on "Noninvasive Mental Influencing."

As he grew older, he continued to develop his skills, showing the most promise in martial arts and psychological interpretation fields. He left the Companion's Guild at the age of 22, taking his first companion a mere three days later. Keegan's travels over the next few years took him to several planets, where he took a respectable number of clients, satisfying them each in a unique way. His most recent contract led him to a luxury liner El Dorado.

Currency in the 'Verse

The Allied planet system uses Credits as their form of currency. One Credit equates to about 25 USD.

Credits are the paper money of the 'Verse. It's the only accepted currency on the Core planets, and one must visit a money changer if they don't have Credits. Credits are rather high security and can be easily tracked by the feds.

"Hard coin" is the preferred tender of those with shady businesses. Non traceable coins that vary in worth, one must go to a money changer if you wish to turn them into credits. Platinum, Gold, and Silver, each dropping in value from the first. Flashing coinage on a Core planet is likely to get you bound by law.
