I tried emailing the three major ebook sellers on how much the author actually gets from each book they sell. Amazon-Keeps confidential Mobipocket reader-Keeps Confidential Barnes and Noble-Emailed back with FAQ link and email addy to email if question wasn't answered. Emailed said email. No reply.
SO I'm going to do this the down and dirty way. My novel that's normally free for all to read online, I'm going to try to publish with all three ebook companies. I doubt Barnes and Noble has a thing to do so with, although Amazon definitely does.
I decided to do this because artists tend to get a minuscule fraction of what their book earns... the publishers taking all the profit essentially. Either way, I feel this is not ethical, and so to uncover exactly WHAT goes on and seeing this system on the down and dirty side, I'm polishing my novel(I can hook ya'll up with a free plain text version if you like!) and planning to publish it. Of course, with my novel, I never wanted to make money with it, but to see what goes on and if aspiring novelists are kicked around, it would be awesome to expose such things! biggrin
And If some are awesome, and some totally suck, I will report back here with who would be best to support, and who to freaking avoid! xD
But yeah, I figured I'd stick this under human because it's kinda a human issue. Writers will write as long as someone will read regardless, but they at least deserve living wages, and to the newbie writer, just getting started, they need every penny they can get!

Sounds interesting. My writing skills are spotty at best though. Sometimes I can write really good stuff, but usually when I write my writing just doesn't flow very well. xP
Anyway, good luck!

Thanks! Yeah it feels weird trying to get money out of my novel. xD I wrote it to be free for all to read, simply because writing is a HOBBY, not my career. xP But what I found is interesting! And amazon wants me to use my SSN to publish. ;_;

Lulz. Hope you didn't actually give it to them. Amazon's pretty reliable, but it's still the Internet.
Do other places ask for your SSN or is it just Amazon?

I didn't give them it... I tried doing the thing most places do(i.e. last 4 digits)but it wouldn't accept. I think lulu did too, or barnes and noble. I forget which. xD
I don't have a mac, otherwise I'd make an ehub version and see the process for making a book available on ibooks would be like too.
